Often staying quite busy throughout the year with his shooting schedule, promotions, and awards shows, Tom Hanks even received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. However, the actor received the most number of awards for his performance as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger in Clint Eastwood’s film Sully: Miracle on the Hudson. But somehow, Hanks’ work experience wasn’t fulfilling.
Following his appearance in Clint Eastwood‘s film, the two times Oscar winner shared his experience on set. Speaking about feeling intimidated by Eastwood on The Graham Norton Show, Hanks revealed his miserable experience. Sharing what it felt like to work with the veteran director and experience his intimidating style, the 67-year-old drew bizarre comparisons.
“He treats his actors like horses because when he did the 60s series ‘Rawhide,’ the director would shout ‘Action!’ and all the horses bolted.”
Discussing further, the Forrest Gump actor mentioned, “So when he’s [Eastwood] in charge, he says in a really quiet soft voice, ‘All right, go ahead,’ and instead of shouting ‘Cut!’ he says ‘That’s enough of that.’ It’s intimidating as hell!”. However, after discussing his miserable condition, and witnessing Eastwood’s intimidating style, Hanks mentioned how the director pushed the cast to stay true to the reality of the moment.
Tom Hanks Spoke About The Clint Eastwood Directed Movie
After discussing his work experience on The Graham Norton Show, Tom Hanks broke down about the authenticity of the movie. Expressing his gratitude and respect for Clint Eastwood as he successfully delivered such a masterpiece, Hanks mentioned the presence of the real Sully during production. “Sully was very particular about how we portrayed the procedure and the emotions.” the 67-year-old mentioned.
“He pulled out this dog-eared, stapled, and notated script that he had read. Post-its, stapled index cards all over it – I’m sure his wife had even written ‘No’ across it in lipstick! We went through every page and every moment, every beat had been commented on. He had opinions.”
Appearing in the story of a real-life feat of heroism, was a great deal for the veteran actor, Tom Hanks. Portraying the pivotal role of the real-life superhero Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who safely landed an endangered plane in New York’s Hudson River in 2009, Hanks rejoiced his choice of project.
The 2016 drama based on real-life incidents made $240.8M at the box office on its $60M budget. Narrating the story of the pilot, Captain Chesley, who made an emergency landing on the Hudson River after his plane got hit by birds, the movie earned several awards and nominations, along with an 85% RT rating.
