The Hamilton actor recalled that there were no major secrets or spoilers in the first film, but the scrutiny intensified with the second film.

Hamill revealed how Irwin Kershner, the director of The Empire Strikes Back, met him personally in his dressing room to reveal the big secret. The Airborne actor had to keep this secret for almost a year and a half. When the scene was shot, Harrison Ford felt betrayed that Hamill had known the secret and hadn’t told him.
