Matt Damon has been leading the films for quite a while now. From kicking off his acting journey in the late 80s, he got prominence with his work, Good Will Hunting, and the journey only went to the positive side. From leading the Bourne franchise to working on some major projects including this month’s anticipated film, Oppenheimer, his career has risen to great heights.
However, it cannot overshadow the biggest career blunder he did when James Cameron approached him to star in his epic, Avatar. However, he revealed getting a shocking reaction from his Oppenheimer co-star, Emily Blunt’s husband, John Krasinski.
Emily Blunt’s Husband’s Reaction on Matt Damon’s Career Blunder
The high-profile couple, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski met at a Los Angeles restaurant in 2008 and got married two years later. In a recent interview, Matt Damon, who starred alongside her in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer opened up about getting his favorite reaction from the latter when he mentioned turning down Avatar.
During his CNN appearance at Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace via ET Canada, he shared,
“My favourite reaction to this was, I told John Krasinski, and he launches himself out of the chair.”
He continued to share what Krasinski told him at the time,
“He starts pacing the kitchen, he goes, ‘Okay, okay, okay. Okay, okay. Nothing in your life would be different today if you had done that movie, except you and I would be having this conversation in space.’”
Matt Damon Turned Down Avatar Franchise
Damon has himself regretted turning down such a golden opportunity to play the role of Jake Sully in the iconic James Cameron’s Avatar.
In a 2021 interview, he told the media,
“I will go down in history,” adding, “You will never meet an actor who turned down more money.”
“I had a contract… I was in the middle of shooting the ‘Bourne’ movie and I would have to leave the movie kind of early and leave them in the lurch a little bit and I didn’t want to do that.”
Avatar is available on Netflix meanwhile Oppenheimer is available in theatres.
