Emily Ratajkowski, an American model and actress, shot her claim to fame with her appearance in Robin Thicke’s music video Blurred Lines in 2013. She made her acting debut in 2014 with a supporting role in the critically acclaimed thriller Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher. However, Ratajkowski no longer pursues acting as a full-time career.
Emily Ratajkowski recently revealed the reason behind relinquishing her acting career in Hollywood. The actress cited the ill-treatment she received from certain prominent male figures in the industry as the prime reason for her decision.
Emily Ratajkowski Calls Hollywood A “Fu***d Up” Place
According to a report from Variety, the actress expressed her disillusionment with the film industry, describing it as a “fu**ed up” place. She added that she didn’t perceive acting as a means of artistic expression and instead felt objectified.
“I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I’m an artist performing and this is my outlet,'” she said, “I felt like a piece of meat who people were judging, saying, ‘Does she have anything else other than her [breasts]?'”
At the start of 2020, Emily Ratajkowski fired her acting agent, commercial representative, and manager, citing her faith in their capacity to secure her roles that could establish her as a “serious actress with longevity.”
How Did Emily Ratajkowski Take Charge Of her Career
Ratajkowski explained that she distrusted her team and felt compelled to take charge of her career decisions. The actress believed none of them genuinely had her best interests at heart, and their negative attitude towards women further fueled her decision to fire them.
In her essay titled My Body, the actress recalls a revelatory moment that occurred at a party she attended with her now-estranged husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard. She was subjected to a crass remark from Bear-McClard’s intoxicated agent, who told her she was “like Pamela Anderson before the hep C.”
Moreover, Ratajkowski felt immense discomfort among the other guests and the company her husband kept. She described them as,
“men who only two years before had been kissing Harvey Weinstein’s ring and encouraging their young female clients to take meetings with him in hotel rooms.”

Emily Ratajkowski Isn’t Interested In Men’s POVs
The actress previously expressed her lack of interest in hearing men’s perspectives, remarking that she felt they had been dishonest. She attributed this sentiment to her negative experiences in the industry. She explained,
“Maybe that’s why right now I’m not really interested in men’s POVs… Because they were lies… Hollywood is fucked up. And it’s dark… I had a hard time even being at a party like that. But then having a part of me that was so connected to it was even harder.”
In Gone Girl, Ratajkowski played the role of Andie Fitzgerald, a student who is also the secret lover of Nick Dunne, played by Ben Affleck. The film delves into the complexities of marital discord and gender expectations.
Gone Girl is currently available for streaming on HBO Max. It can also be purchased or rented on iTunes and Google Play.
