After departing from the DCEU, Zack Snyder has been collaborating with Netflix for some big-budget releases on the platform. The Justice League director’s first Netflix outing, Army of the Dead, had its criticisms for the plot and runtime, but the movie is undeniably another example of Snyder’s visually brilliant storytelling. As the movie has turned into a franchise, Snyder is looking forward to his next big release, Rebel Moon.
The excitement among Snyder fans for Rebel Moon is soaring, as the Batman v Superman director dives into a Star Wars-like universe for this Netflix movie. Ray Fisher, who is part of the movie, has recently released an update that will make fans go crazy.
Ray Fisher’s Tweet Further Raises The Expectations For Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon
Ray Fisher was part of Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe where he played the superhero character Cyborg. The True Detective actor first appeared as Cyborg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and later reprised the role in Justice League. Although Fisher didn’t get his standalone movie in the universe, he is now part of another ambitious Zack Snyder project.
Talking about Rebel Moon, where he plays the character Darrian Bloodaxe, the 35-year-old actor tweeted that he just got to see some footage from the film and promised that the movie will revolutionize the sci-fi genre. Fisher further added that Rebel Moon will be a treat for cosplayers, hinting at the world-building in the film.
As speculations for the epic space opera continues to mount, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is confirmed to release in two parts. While Snyder wanted a single extended movie like Justice League, Netflix preferring shorter movies for its audience convinced the Sucker Punch director to a two-part release.
Rebel Moon Was Initially Conceived As Zack Snyder’s Pitch For A Star Wars Movie
Rebel Moon is Zack Snyder’s attempt at creating a phenomenon like Star Wars. The movie, which also takes inspiration from Akira Kurosowa films, was initially pitched to Lucasfilms as a Star Wars movie before the sequel trilogy happened, but the pitch fell through. Netflix recognized that the Watchmen director’s world is big enough just like Star Wars and believed that the story could be expanded into further movies. An executive for Netflix, Ori Marmur, revealed:
“With Rebel Moon he wanted to push the envelope again. When we saw how big the world he created was, we thought it would be better served as two pieces versus one film. It’s the kind of story that can continue to grow. He thinks of it as his take on making something like Star Wars.”
Rebel Moon’s first part titled A Child of Fire will reportedly have a limited theatrical release along with its Netflix release on December 22, 2023. The second part titled The Scargiver will release on April 19, 2024. The movie also plans the release of a Snyder-cut-like version only for adults hinting that the movie is going to be intense.
