In his latest interview, actor Nicholas Hoult explained how he lost three roles in a row, including a role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022). He also revealed that Tom Cruise personally offered him a role in the Mission: Impossible franchise, which unfortunately, he had to decline. Hoult is a talented actor, and has starred in several blockbuster hits like Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), The Favourite (2018), and A Single Man (2009).
Hoult isn’t new to the superhero genre of movies though, as he played the role of Hank/Beast in the X-Men franchise and starred in the films X-Men: First Class (2011), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019).
Nicholas Hoult wanted to play the Batman
Actor Nicholas Hoult recently told The Guardian about his miserable attempt to shift from the X-Men franchise to the DC universe. The actor wanted to play the role of Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022) but it didn’t work out. However, that was just the beginning, as he lost more roles after that. He said,
“I screen-tested for Batman and didn’t get it. Screen-tested for Top Gun, but didn’t get it. Then I got the call from Tom Cruise: ‘Hey, how about Mission Impossible? Ok. Got it. Then I had to drop out because I was already attached to do some more of The Great.”
Matt Reeves hired Robert Pattinson to play the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his movie. The production of The Batman: Part II is all set to begin later this year.
Tom Cruise got Nicholas Hoult a major role in the Mission: Impossible franchise
Hoult reportedly auditioned for the role of Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw and Jake “Hangman” Seresin, but unfortunately didn’t get either part in Top Gun: Maverick. Tom Cruise saw his attempts and decided to get him a role in the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.
As per sources, it was a major role but Hoult had to leave the project. He accepted the offer in January 2020, but by May 2020 had to leave the project. Hoult explained that his contractual obligation to his Hulu period comedy, The Great, didn’t allow him to work in the Mission: Impossible franchise. He was then replaced by Esai Morales.
Even though he could not be a part of these three films, the actor has starred in some great movies like A Single Man (2009), The Menu (2022), The Banker (2020), and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
