“We share the same beliefs,” may not be the most romantic of reasons to fall in love but it seems like a firm step toward building a healthy marriage. Media mogul, Rupert Murdoch, has found both – love and someone worth spending his life with – for the fifth time, in the late Chester Smith’s widow, Ann Lesley Smith. The pair are expected to tie the knot in a summer wedding, barely a year after meeting each other in 2022.
Fox’s Rupert Murdoch Faces Marriage and a Lawsuit
The pandemic has not been kind to the right-wing and conservative media empire, Fox News. The allegations of election fraud that were first ricocheted about through the outlet in 2020 have now led to the upheaval of a storm of monstrous proportions 3 years later and have consequently brought the outlet’s owner, Rupert Murdoch, under the fiery and scorching threat of a collapsing empire.
The $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit brought down against Fox News for airing false claims of election fraud by Dominion Voting Systems Inc is set to take off soon. However, all of that takes a backseat in the face of love. The owner of the multibillion-dollar media empire has found the woman he wants to spend “the second half” of his life with.
The engagement announcement, which has been reported by the Murdoch-owned publication, New York Post, claims the mogul (who recently celebrated his 92nd birthday) presented his 66-year-old fiancée with an Asscher-cut diamond solitaire ring, and the couple is looking to tie the knot in a ceremony in the coming months.
Rupert Murdoch & Ann Lesley Smith Set to Tie the Knot
Come summer, Rupert Murdoch (with a net worth of $21.7 billion) will have been married for the fifth time, after his split from the supermodel, Jerry Hall, in 2022 after their 6 years of marriage. Speaking to the New York Post, Murdoch claimed:
“I was very nervous. I dreaded falling in love – but I knew this would be my last. It better be. I’m happy. We’re both looking forward to spending the second half of our lives together.”
The songwriter and radio personality, Ann Lesley Smith, on her part, has said of the pair:
“I’m a widow 14 years. Like Rupert, my husband was a businessman. Worked for local papers, developed radio and TV stations and helped promote Univision. So I speak Rupert’s language. We share the same beliefs. For us both it’s a gift from God.”
The couple’s wedding will take place amid the defamation trial which is set to begin on April 17 in Delaware. Earlier, during deposition, Murdoch who also owns the UK tabloid, The Sun (responsible for alleging that Johnny Depp was a “wife-beater” resulting in the 2020 London libel trial), swore under oath that though some Fox News hosts “endorsed” the idea of election fraud, Fox News itself had no part in it and doesn’t believe in the idea of a stolen election.
