The use of heavy CGI in Hollywood movies has long been a topic of discussion among filmmakers and Hollywood stars. While some believe that it represents the evolution of filmmaking, others do not share the same opinion. And Chris Pine seems to relate to the latter. The Wonder Woman actor, who is set to star in Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, shared that his upcoming film uses practical effects and does not involve heavy CGI.
Jonathan Goldstein’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is based on the popular roleplaying game. Chris Pine stars as Edgin the Bard alongside stars like Hugh Grant and Michelle Rodriguez. The film has no connections with the previous film series based on the game.
What Chris Pine Likes About Big-Budget Filmmaking?
During his recent interview with Collider, Chris Pine shared his opinion on big-budget filmmaking. While sharing his experience working with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley on Honor Among Thieves, the actor shared that their idea of telling a story is exactly what he likes about “big-budget filmmaking.”
The Outlaw King further shared that they have a history of making “really great comedy.” He said, “There’s an earnest, real heart to it with a really sweet message. The comedy’s really on point. The practical visual element was really neat.”
Pine called them “technicians” as he praised them for not relying on green screen and “to do stuff practically with real monsters made by super craftsmen.” The Carriers star said that he likes their ambition of working on such a huge project without relying on heavy CGI.
This is not the first time Chris Pine has shared his thoughts on popular superhero films. During the promotion of his 2017 film, Wonder Woman, he shared his thoughts on the popularity of Marvel superhero movies.
He claimed that the genre has nothing new to discover and just involves a “bunch of people killing one another in outfits and blowing up cities.” The Poolman star is playing Edgin the Bard in Honor Among Thieves. While not much is revealed about his character, Edgin is expected to be one of the major characters in the upcoming film.
Chris Pine’s Ego Led Him to Attend the Biggest Comic Cons
For the promotion of his upcoming movie, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Chris Pine attended some of the biggest comic cons. When he was asked if he was required to do so under his contract, he said, “Yeah, for my ego, basically.”
He shared that he loves it when thousands of people clap as he enters the stage. “Just adoring people clapping when you walk out on the stage is always a good feeling,” the Smokin’ Aces star said.
He shared that it really excites him to walk on the stage as people eagerly wait to listen to the film they made. While he called it “pretty cool,” his co-star Hugh Grant does not feel the same about comic cons.
Hugh Grant shared that he was constantly followed by a person who was dressed as a hot dog. He shared that he was dressed in the same costume for the whole comic con and it still gives him nightmares.
