While fans and critics have been calling Barbie weird, even the Shang Chi star couldn’t help but agree that the movie is weird, but in a good way. The actor’s agent even bet his career on the film, declaring he’d happily get fired if the movie turned out to be a disappointment.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s starter Barbie is being called many things and weird is one of the most used adjectives. Even the movie’s star Simu Liu agreed to the fact that Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie is on the weird side of the spectrum but in a really good way.

In a recent interview, the Marvel star stated,

“‘Weird’ is a great way to describe it, but weird in the best possible way.”

He further added ‘bonkers’ is another great adjective to describe the soon-to-be-released film,

“It’s absolutely bonkers and it’s absolutely weird and fun, heartfelt and all of the things. I’m trying to dance around giving away actual plot details because trust me, you don’t want that; you want to be surprised in the movie theater.”

And the audience, fans, and even critics are beyond excited to witness the pink-marvel, which has quickly become one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Simu Liu’s Agent Convinced Him To Do Barbie After His Marvel Career Remains In Turmoil

The Marvel star’s career in the MCU seems to be stuck in turmoil. After repeated dates pushback and delays, Shang Chi 2 has no release date in sight. Even the star himself exclaimed certain uncontrollable reasons are to be blamed for the movie’s delay. As per recent reports, it was claimed that the movie might release after Avengers, although which Avengers movie to be exact was not revealed.

With Avengers 5 to be released on May 2026, and Avengers 6 sometime later in 2027, it seems plausible that Shang Chi would no longer be a part of the multiverse saga but would instead be transferred into Phase 7 of Marvel. In the midst of all this, it is fortunate that Simu Liu’s agent convinced him to do Barbie since it seems to be his only ‘lifeline’ as of now.

“Before I read the script, I had an agent that was like ‘You need to do Barbie, I bet my career on this.’ Basically, he was like, ‘Fire me if this movie doesn’t turn out well,’ and I was like ‘Ok, dude.’”

And as the big day draws closer, we can’t help but be excited to finally witness the Barbie magic unfold on the silver screen, and whether or not it would help Simu Liu’s career when all seems to be lost for him.

Barbie is all set to release on July 21, 2023.
