Jaden Smith has been juggling his career as an actor and a rapper. He has already put out three studio albums titled Syre, Erys, and CTV3: Cool Tape Vo. 3. He has garnered a decent fan following and is a rising star among the rappers in the music industry. He has also acted in several successful films including The Pursuit of Happiness, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Karate Kid, and Life in a Year. Being the son of actor Will Smith, he is trying to make his name in the acting world and in other pursuits that he is interested in. Music seems to be something Smith is passionate about and this has led to him making a decision that differentiates his two ventures as an actor and as a rapper.
Jaden Smith Removed His Last Name With a Valid Reasoning
Jaden Smith recently talked about why he removed his last name and now goes by the name Jaden. He was influenced by his sister Willow doing the same and found that to be an innovative and powerful thing to do. He told Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe,
“I realized that Willow changed her name to Willow at some point in time. And that she was no longer Willow Smith. Yeah, it took me a while. It took me a while. Because if you look Willow Smith up, it’ll still come up. But then it took me a while to see that it was just Willow. And I was like, ‘Yo. That’s so strong. You feel like you don’t have to say your last name. You’re just Willow ‘”
He reasons his decision to remove his last name to be a conscious one of making a distinction between his two identities as an actor and a rapper. He further added,
“I create different characters for myself and that’s also one of the reasons I love Bowie so much, but I create different characters for myself and it’s like Jaden, that’s music, and Jaden Smith, that’s 501(c)(3), that’s acting in movies. I wanted to just make that little distinction there, just a little bit so that I could just…different things are happening.”
Smith is not entirely abandoning his family name from his real identity. He just wants to create a new one for his musical career by removing his last name. Thus, his stage name became Jaden and it stands out among other artists and rappers.
He Has Also Been Investing in His Water Bottle Brand
Jaden Smith is also an avid environmentalist and has time and again talked about how water problems across the world affect and sadden him. The sight of plastic bottles littering the ocean changed his perspective on the importance of providing more sustainable and eco-friendly water bottles. He told Fast Company,
“I knew that it was going to be really hard to create, like, a new soda. And I knew that the recipe for water all over the world is pretty much the same and it was going to be a lot easier to create a new water bottle company than a soda company. And that’s what I wanted to do, and I was like, 12 years old”
With the help of his parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, he founded a water bottle brand named ‘Just Water’ in 2015, which is already valued at $100 million by 2019. It seems Smith is doing whatever he can to contribute to people, whether it be music, films, or a social cause.
What is Jaden Smith’s Net Worth?
Jaden Smith’s net worth is estimated to be $8 million (according to Celebrity Net Worth). He has various pursuits that he has explored at such a young age of 25. He is a multitalented person who has tasted success in films, music, and being a founder of a sustainable water bottle brand ‘Just Water’.
He is a proud son to his parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith who have supported him in everything he does and he does his best to live up to their parents’ legacy by working hard and making significant contributions to art and society.
