Chris Rock Opens Up About Will Smith’s Slap

Chris Rock opens up about the infamous slap at the 94th Academy Awards which he received from star actor Will Smith due to a joke he directed towards his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith which the couple took to heart. Though it happened almost a year ago, Chris Rock has not opened up about this or even share his thoughts about the matter, but recently in his recent Netflix release, Selective Outrage, the comedian opened up about how and why what happened, happened. Rock shared the details of what actually went down before the Oscars began and how he became involved in one of the most awkward situations of all time.

Chris Rock recently revealed that the slap he received from Will Smith was due to a completely different reason than everyone was thinking of. Rock continued that Jada Pinkett Smith was especially angry with the Oscars due to the lack of diversity in the ceremony and also because Will Smith was not nominated for his role in Concussion. He further revealed that before the Oscars began, Pinkett Smith was trying to avoid the show and also get the African-American actors and actresses to boycott the ceremony.

Chris Rock’s Take on the Matter

As Chris Rock was the presenter for the Award Show at the event, it was obvious that Rock would be against the matter, and this was one of the main reasons Chris Rock was targeted. Though the unsavory joke triggered the whole pent-up situation from the Smiths, it partly had nothing to do with his joke that was directed toward Jada Pinkett Smith.

“Everybody that really knows, knows I had nothing to do with that sh*t. I didn’t have any ‘entanglements’.”

It was also a well-known fact that Jada Pinkett Smith had an affair with her son, Jaden Smith’s friend and the couple openly discussed the matter previously which might have set Will Smith on the wrong track as he was called names due to the incident. After the incident occurred at the Oscars, Will Smith was banned from any upcoming Academy Awards for the next decade and as compensation to Chris Rock, he was asked to host the next Oscars, which he rejected.
