Despite initially projecting a seemingly flawless image of their relationship, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, once considered an IT Hollywood couple, have openly acknowledged both the peaks and valleys they’ve encountered. Over time, the facade of perfection has given way to a more authentic portrayal. This prompted them to embark on a journey of introspection and growth, actively striving to improve not only their individual selves but also the bond they share in their marriage.
Consequently, during his appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook talk show, Red Table Talk, Will Smith delved into a candid conversation about their marriage. During this, the Aladdin actor bravely opened up about his own vulnerabilities, which gradually revealed a shocking revelation about Jada Pinkett Smith.
Jada Pinkett Smith Once Cried for 45 Days Because Will Smith Failed Her as a Husband
In 2018, the actor Will Smith joined his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, his daughter Willow Smith and his mother-in-law, Adrienne Banfield-Jones at the red table and things got heavy. The actor and his “life partner”, a preferred term by the couple instead of “husband and wife”, to avoid the pressure of monogamy and being picture-perfect, discussed the lowest point in their 26 years long marriage. The Emancipation actor addressed his daughter and said,
“There was a period where mommy woke up and cried for 45 days straight. I started keeping a diary,”
Pinkett Smith chimed in by saying,
“You missed some days,–It was every morning. I think that’s the worst I’ve ever felt in our marriage,–I was failing miserably.”
Despite their concerted efforts to project an image of marital perfection, the meticulously crafted façade ended up becoming a double-edged sword, trapping both Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith within their world of perfection. Although the actress revealed it was not completely her husband’s fault in a separate interview by saying,
“It wasn’t about him—It’s really misleading. I wasn’t crying because of Will. I was crying because I had created a life for myself where I wasn’t happy. It wasn’t him,”
Will Smith took on the majority portion of the blame, acknowledging that his actions had caused his wife’s unhappiness and admitting his failure as a husband on his part.

Jada Pinkett Smith Never Wanted to Marry Will Smith
Jada Pinkett Smith fell in love with Will Smith at the beginning of 1995. However, their dynamic shifted when they discovered that she was expecting their son only two years into their partnership, prompting the idea of marriage. Therefore Pinkett Smith once revealed to People magazine,
“I never wanted to get married,–But my mother was like, ‘You have to get married’ – she’s so old school – and Will wanted a family. So I said, ‘All right, maybe it’s something I should do.”
She then further continued that the people surrounding them coerced her into getting married, although she loved Will Smith, marriage wasn’t something she was interested in,
“I had never seen a happy marriage,–I adored Will, I f——- adored him, but I just didn’t want to be married.”
Having broken free from the constraints that once confined them now in the form of an open marriage, the couple is on a journey to rekindle their connection. Although not divorced, they openly acknowledge that their relationship requires effort and are actively working towards rebuilding it.
