As Barbie is almost ready to splash the “pink” all over our eyes this July 21, we’re getting a stacked star cast with our favorite doll Margot Robbie in all her glitz as the titular character. With Ryan Reynolds, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, and Will Ferrel, director Greta Gerwig wanted to stuff two more of her favorite young actors, but they both allegedly couldn’t agree to it.
They were none other than the Lady Bird friends of Gerwig, Timothée Chalamet, and Saoirse Ronan. Both the Oscar-nominated actors are a class apart in their craft, and fans would have absolutely loved seeing Ronan and Chalamet take on some version of Barbie and Ken.
Although Margot Robbie has never worked with Chalamet, she has collaborated with Ronan in Mary Queen of Scots. Both actresses exuberate a sense of royalty in their on-screen presence and it would have been phenomenal to see them work again as Barbie sisters.

Margot Robbie Almost Had Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan As Her Barbie Friends
Director Greta Gerwig has proven with her directorial debut Lady Bird that she can handle a multi-star cast with ease. The trio has worked together and with an experience like that, they could have collaborated again.
In her conversation with Cinema Blend, Gerwig revealed how badly she wanted both the actors to join her in this journey.
“Well, it was always going to have to be like a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for. And of course, it’s brilliant. But it was going to be a specialty cameo. I was also going to do a specialty cameo with Timmy, and both of them couldn’t do it, and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much. But it felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”
With that specialty cameo, Ronan shared earlier this year that she could have been an amazing addition to Barbie Land with her close friend Margot Robbie and they could have packed a punch!

Where Are Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan So Busy?
Hollywood can’t let Timothée Chalamet’s mythical face and intense acting go to waste. His schedule is quite packed as he is coming back as Paul Atreides in the second installment of Dune coming this November. Not just that, but he will be taking us all to the Chocolate factory in Wonka in December.
Saoirse Ronan on the other hand is exploring her production capabilities with her film Outrun. As the film is in post-production, she had to sadly let go of her chance to become a Barbie doll.
Had this worked out, if only for a few minutes, Barbie would have flipped the audience as the two actors have been accumulating a huge fan base after their performances in Lady Bird and Little Women.
But, fans definitely hope that Margot Robbie and Gerwig could bring them on board with the sequel.
Barbie releases on July 21 and will mark the first-ever live-action film to ever happen.
