With his striking looks and natural charisma, Bradley Cooper has become one of the most prominent names in the world of entertainment. Cooper, across his long-spanning career, has been able to win several accolades including a British Academy Film Award, two Grammy Awards, and more.
The Hangover star may enjoy immense popularity today, but his journey to reach here has surely not been easy. His struggles and rejections rose to a height that he even started to consider the idea of quitting his acting career altogether. This very feeling of low self-esteem was triggered in Cooper from the TV series, Alias.
Bradley Cooper’s Exit From Alias
Alias was an immensely popular spy thriller series that aired from 2001 to 2006, captivating audiences with its intense action, and compelling characters. Cooper portrayed the character of Will Tippin in the series and his performance at the beginning was surely promising. But as time passed, his screen time reduced along with his self-esteem, and he eventually decided to bid farewell to the series.
“I would only work three days a week. And then for the second season, I got even more sidelined. I was like, ‘Ugh.’ And then next thing you know, I was like, ‘I want to fucking kill myself.’ J.J. was like, ‘Okay.’ He probably would’ve fired me, anyway. At some point, you have to come to terms with ‘The business just doesn’t want you, you know what I mean?”
Bradley Cooper Considered Quitting Acting After His Alias Exit
The exit from Alias was surely heartbreaking for the American Sniper star, and to make the situation worse, Cooper got addicted to drugs. The Silver Linings Playbook star realized the fact that his addiction to drugs if continued, was going to destroy his life. Bradley Cooper not only realized this fact, but also embraced it.
“In the way that if—the one thing that I’ve learned in life is the best thing I can do is embrace who I am and then do that to the fullest extent, and then whatever happens, happens. The more steps I do to not do that, the farther I am away from fulfilling any potential I would have. So the answer to that question, then, is: Yes, of course, it hindered the work.”
It looks like Cooper’s self-acceptance surely changed his life course. Bradley Cooper made his groundbreaking entry in 2009 with The Hangover and has not turned back since then. Several of his acclaimed films followed The Hangover, solidifying Cooper’s name in the industry.
