Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart were recently seen together in the Netflix movie Me Time. The 2022 comedy had a lot of references to several Hollywood celebrities. One of the major references made in the movie was George Clooney’s personal life. When asked about that scene, Wahlberg replied that he wanted the Batman star to find out the joke from the movie himself.
It is to be noted that Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney also worked on three projects together. While the two co-starred in Three Kings and The Perfect Storm, Clooney also produced Wahlberg’s Rock Star. The two share quite a healthy friendship and the latter didn’t hesitate to poke fun at the Ocean’s Eleven fame.
Mark Wahlberg on the George Clooney joke in Me Time
Me Time is a buddy comedy movie recently released on Netflix. The John Hamburg directorial had several references to many prominent Hollywood names and according to Mark Wahlberg, it’s one of the best aspects of the movie.
When the Boogie Nights fame spoke to Cinemablend along with Kevin Hart, the former shared some insight into the joke related to George Clooney. Wahlberg was asked if he called or texted Clooney before the release of the Netflix movie to which the former star replied that he wanted the star to find out himself and figure out if it was an insult:
“Nope. I want him to see it. I want him to see it and be like, ‘What the heck? Is this an insult? I mean, it didn’t seem like it’s an insult. But is it an insult?’ (laughs) No, we just… I gotta give all the credit to John Hamburg there. A very, very funny line. And you know, it’s a good way to look at things… for a guy who doesn’t want to grow up.”
In the Netflix show, the character Huck Dembo played by Mark Wahlberg refers to a “Clooney Plan”. It means waiting for a long period before settling with an ideal life partner. It goes well with George Clooney’s personal life who enjoyed a bachelor’s life after 1993 for a long time before getting married to Alam Alamuddin in 2014.
Interestingly, Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney were also supposed to work on a few more projects before Wahlberg missed the iconic franchise starring the Gravity actor.
Mark Wahlberg was approached for a role in Ocean’s Eleven
George Clooney gave us some valuable information about the iconic heist movie at the 2023 TCM Classic Film Festival. When the Danny Ocean star remarked that Steven Soderbergh is a fabulous director and many stars want to work with him, the director was quick to acknowledge that few of them didn’t. To it, the 62-year-old added that they do regret it now:
“They did. Some very famous people told us to f–k right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others. They regret it now. I regret doing f–king Batman.”
Reportedly, there were many names besides Wahlberg and Depp who rejected the role that eventually went to Matt Damon who continued to play it for the rest of the franchise. However, the reference to Batman was also witty as undoubtedly it is the most regretting decision in Clooney’s life.
Ultimately, it doesn’t look like the Clooney joke worked for Me Time as it received abysmal reviews from everywhere and both critics and audiences. Most of the audience claimed that it was unfunny and not worth anyone’s time.
Me Time can be streamed on Netflix.
