Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio became worldwide sensations after they appeared in James Cameron’s 1997 film, Titanic, which was based on the tragic sinking of RMS Titanic, which took place in 1912. In the movie, DiCaprio and Winslet played two people from different social classes who fell in love during the voyage.

Kate Winslet was worried about falling in love with Leonardo DiCaprio
Director James Cameron incorporated the idea of a love story in 1997’s Titanic because he felt like it was necessary to convey the emotional impact of the disaster. Hollywood’s then-budding stars, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio were hired to play Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson respectively. Initially, Winslet was worried about falling in love with DiCaprio while filming the movie. While speaking to The Mirror in February, the actress said,
“I feel so grateful for that friendship and it is like family. It’s one of those rare Hollywood friendships that I feel very blessed to have. I did think to myself beforehand, it’s going to be hard, because you know, what if I really fancy him? And I so thought I was going to, because he is absolutely gorgeous.”
Winslet was a fresh face in the industry back then, and working in James Cameron’s movie alongside Leonardo DiCaprio was a big opportunity for her.

Further in the interview, Winslet highlighted that she shares a special bond with DiCaprio that envies a lot of her friends,
“It was a real brother-sister thing. We were very, very, very close and really stuck together. The closeness and the strength of the friendship that we had is something a lot of my friends envy like mad but to me, he’s just silly old Leo.”
On multiple occasions, Winslet has shut down rumors about her romance with DiCaprio. The two have always asserted that their relationship has never been romantic.
Titanic was a massive success
1997’s Titanic is widely regarded as a remarkable film that achieved significant success. Apart from launching the careers of several stars of the movie, Titanic also grossed over $2 billion at the global box office, breaking several records. It received 14 Academy Award nominations and managed to bag 11.
James Cameron was so dedicated that he went on 12 dives to the real Titanic to bring authenticity to the big screen for the viewers. With inflation kept in mind, it is estimated that creating the movie cost more than the Titanic itself. The cinematic masterpiece still remains one of the most beloved and influential movies in the history of cinema.
