Chris Hemsworth has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the first phase started a legendary franchise. He has been the favorite superhero for many fans and an iconic character on his own. Thor and Hemsworth go hand in hand at this point. Even after over a decade of him playing the character, his attachment to the God of Thunder is mesmerizing.
He has given some spectacular performances throughout the franchise. However, oftentimes his standalone movies get kicked to the curb. Such was the case with almost every one of his series except for Thor: Ragnarok. His latest flick perhaps got the worst reviews yet and so it became doubtful about whether or not Hemsworth would return as the character.
Chris Hemsworth’s Condition To Returning As Thor
Chris Hemsworth opened up about his stance in the MCU and if he would be willing to return or not. Thor: Love and Thunder had an exceptionally bad review despite various elements making it an interesting watch. It was as if a wonderful idea was botched for the sake of comedy. Furthermore, Hemsworth later announced that he would be taking a break from acting after he learned that he was at risk of getting Alzheimer’s Disease.
“I have no idea. I’ve said it before, it all depends on the type of story. It has to be something unique. What I don’t want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience. But if there is excitement for it, I am always willing to return.”
This doubt may have been growing but, the actor revealed that there is a possibility for him to return. He kept a condition forward and perhaps it is the most justified condition anyone can keep so as to provide the best for a character they cherish and love. He stated that for Thor to return, the story had to be much more unique and stand out. He confirmed that he was not going to play the part until the audience gets completely bored. Rather, he wants to exit at his peak. So if Thor were to return, there must be a script that catches his eye while giving a positive response from the audience as well.
Will Chris Hemsworth Retire From The MCU?
Much like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth also wants to bid farewell to his character when the audience loves him the most. It would not be impactful to part ways with Thor when the public is basically demanding that off of him. It was said that Thor would have an integral part in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Although a lot of the franchise is hanging by a thread because of Jonathan Majors, there is still a sense of excitement when it comes to fans wanting to see more of Marvel. Being the biggest franchise in the world, a lot is hanging on their shoulders. Hemsworth has confirmed that he will not be playing the character all his life. He has also added that while he could return, it should mean something. The actor might even retire from the character if he does not get a gripping story to bring him back.
