“We’ve already watched Con Air”: Mark Wahlberg Reunites With Mel Gibson for ‘Flight Risk’ as Fans Claim Movie is Inspired by Nicolas Cage’s $224M Thriller

Despite once being on the verge of being blacklisted from Hollywood following several controversies that surrounded him in the late 2000s, Mel Gibson has been reinventing himself in the industry. Although the actor previously starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in 2021’s Father Stu, which wasn’t the biggest hit, the Braveheart star is set to get back to his roots for his next collaboration with Wahlberg.

Even though the actor has only directed four movies throughout the span of his career, each of them has garnered immense appreciation, with 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge earning him an Oscar Nomination. And after 7 years since his last stint as a director, Gibson is set to get back behind the lenses.

Mark Wahlberg set to star in Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk

Just like several big names, who have come forward over the years in support of Mel Gibson, including Robert Downey Jr, and Mark Wahlberg has nothing but nice things to say about the actor. Apart from commending the Lethal Weapon star for becoming a more improved version of himself, Wahlberg also shared his appreciation for the actor’s work ethic and is now set to collaborate again for Flight Risk. But unlike Father Stu, despite of starring alongside the actor, he is set to work under the supervision of Gibson. Reflecting on Flight Risk, Lionsgate movie chairman Joe Drake stated,

“We love the undeniable electric pairing of Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg. These world-class talents combining for this dynamic, character-driven film will make Flight Risk one of the most suspense-filled, must-see events of the year.”

Considering Gibson’s previous work, including Braveheart, which earned him an Oscar for best direction, it’s safe to say that the upcoming movie Flight Risk might live up to the expectations. However, following the synopsis of the movie, fans found the upcoming movie pretty similar to one of Nicolas Cage’s blockbusters.

Fans reflect on the matter of Flight Risk appearing similar to Nicolas Cage’s Con Air

Although following Mel Gibson‘s skill as a filmmaker, fans are assured that the movie will not miss its mark, some did bring up the fact that the premise sounds pretty similar to Nicolas Cage’s Con Air. Considering that both movies follow the premise of the transportation of criminals through a plane gone wrong, fans didn’t back away from joking about the entire matter through Twitter.

But despite its similarity on paper, movies having a similar premise isn’t something new and even if it is inspired by 1997’s Con Air, fans are assured that the movie might do wonders for the filmmaker.
