Mel Gibson appears to be the only Hollywood star who successfully survived his career controversy after controversy. However, following his barrage of anti-semitic outbursts after an alleged drunk-driving incident, the actor faced major legal actions when he was arrested in LA in 2006. Years later, Gary Oldman publically defended Gibson’s anti-semitic remarks during an interview with Playboy magazine.

Reflecting upon Gibson’s arrest in 2006 for suspected DUI in Malibu and his anti-semitic remarks, Oldman even defended Alec Baldwin’s derogatory and homophobic statements.

Mel Gibson’s 2006 Anti-semitic Outburst

While maintaining his glamorous Hollywood career, Mel Gibson once tainted it with his despicable remarks against the Jewish community. Arrested in 2006 during the early hours, after he was found driving his Lexus on the highway while allegedly drunk, Gibson later blurted anti-semitic remarks that the LAPD had to later cover up.

Publishing a four-page extract of the police report, TMZ reported, “Gibson blurted out a barrage of anti-semitic remarks about ‘f*cking Jews’.” The actor’s comments were also added, where he yelled, “‘The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.’” The incident gained major attention when the police department tried omitting Gibson’s anti-semitic remarks.

Although the actor was released on $5,000 bail after a drunk-driving incident, his despicable remarks gained major media attention. Now, it wasn’t the first time Mel Gibson blurted anti-semitic comments. But it was definitely one of those times when he was forced to apologize in order to maintain his lifestyle following his controversial incident.

Years later when Gary Oldman was promoting his movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes with Playboy, the actor reflected upon Mel Gibson’s 2006 controversy following anti-semitic remarks. Engaging in a very candid conversation with the famous magazine, Oldman passionately defended Gibson despite the controversial comments. The celebrated actor believes “political correctness is cr*p”, thus he proceeded with, “Take a f*cking joke. Get over it”.

I don’t know about Mel. He got drunk and said a few things, but we’ve all said those things. We’re all f–king hypocrites” Gary Oldman stated. 

Defending the actor passionately, Gary Oldman stated, “Mel Gibson is in a town that’s run by Jews, and he said the wrong thing because he’s actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him”. Further, Oldman proceeded to say, “We all hide and try to be so politically correct. That’s what gets me.” The Dark Knight Rises actor further defended Alec Baldwin’s homophobic slurs.

Alec calling someone an F-A-G in the street while he’s p*ssed off coming out of his building because they won’t leave him alone. I don’t blame him. So they persecute.” Gary Oldman stated. 

Quite effectively hurting several sentiments at once, Gary Oldman voiced his disdain for how people hide “behind comedy and satire to say things we can’t ordinarily say, because it’s all too politically correct”. The veteran actor further proceeded to give examples of times when people used fascist or racist remarks and got away.
