Angelina Jolie is the OG when it comes to acting and directing films. She is creative, talented, and a true cinematic genius. Jolie was last married to Brad Pitt, whom she first met in 2003 while portraying the role of his wife in the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They were considered the “It” couples of tinsel town. Pitt and his former wife were the idol pair in Holywood who last shared the silver screen in the 2015 film By the Sea. The Bullet Train star and his former partner appeared together on Today Show This Morning to talk about their film and were asked if they had similar issues in their relationship as the problematic couple they played in the movie, to this the Salt movie star quickly replied, “We’re actually very, very stable.”

“I’m counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film. It’s because we’re actually very, very stable and these aren’t our issues,” Jolie said.

Talking about her relationship with her then-husband Pitt, the actress told Vogue Magazine,

“It’s not autobiographical. Brad and I have our issues … but if the characters were even remotely close to our problems, we couldn’t have made the film. Everybody knows there is never just the tragedy of life, or the humor of life, or the pure joy of life. Relationships have those extremes. You can absolutely madly love the same person you want to kill.”

The Eternals movie star told the outlet that the script of the film came from her “own crazy mind.” She explained, “When I was writing it, I never assumed we’d actually do it, so I wrote with a certain kind of freedom,” to this the Fury movie star added,

“It’s the puzzle of figuring out those things that get in the way of really loving someone. A lot of it is the past; a lot of it is your own insecurities. A lot of it is wanting someone so much that you focus too much on losing it.”

Angelina Jolie wrote and directed the 2015 romantic drama By the Sea: it was a box office failure as it nearly grossed $3.3 million. The film marks Pitt and her last onscreen appearance since Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005.

“I wanted us to do some serious work together. I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate. In some ways, it was, and in some ways, we learned some things. But there was a heaviness, probably, during that situation that carried on, and it wasn’t because of the film.”

She added,

“I’m glad we did [By the Sea] because we did explore something together. Whatever it was, maybe it didn’t solve certain things, but we did communicate something that needed to be communicated to each other.”
