Any actor in the world would probably go to any lengths to get the chance to work with Brad Pitt. One of the absolute best actors working today, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star has won two Oscars, two Golden Globes, and one Primetime Emmy. Also, he has received five additional Academy Award nominations.
Therefore, it is difficult to imagine someone declining the opportunity to play Pitt’s love interest in a big-budget movie. But this famous Bollywood actress did it.
Yes, this Indian beauty and 1994 Miss World winner, who received the Padma Shri award from the Indian government in 2009 has turned down a golden chance to cast alongside the Fight Club star.
She was the first Indian actor to be chosen for the jury at the Cannes Film Festival (2003). Therefore, it makes sense in a way, why she was not much excited about working with Brad Pitt.
Well, any guesses?
Which Bollywood Actress Refused To Work With Brad Pitt?
Hollywood professionals who have already collaborated with Brad Pitt have nothing but the highest praise for the actor. He has starred in several Quentin Tarantino films, and even the director has been very complimentary of the 59-year-old actor’s work ethic. Also, most of his fellow actors have expressed their appreciation for working with him in glowing terms.
However, judging from the actions of Bollywood actress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, it seems not everyone would like to seize the chance to work with the Troy star.
The Bollywood actress had been initially considered for the Briseis role in the 2004 epic historical war movie, Troy. According to the 49-year-old actress:
“There are so many things I am not sure I will be comfortable with in the long run. When Troy was spoken about, forget on the script level, they were saying at least 6-9 months to lock off [the schedule] because it is a huge film. We were like ‘wow.‘”
The actress claimed that she never had a schedule like that for filming. She alleged that, as many people had told her, she did understand that it was a significant break. But she declined due to the necessary “intimate scenes”:
“Well, they were pretty steamy. I heard interviews of a lot of my seniors saying there is a glass ceiling to break and it cannot be broken.”
She further stated that many people thought she would have had an impact on culture if she had accepted the role.
“It could be a point proven, I might not be comfortable with it. So, I walked away from a lot of projects. I could see how it would have panned out.”
Brad Pitt On Not Working With Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Brad Pitt once acknowledged the Indian actress’s decision to turn down the role of Briseis in Troy in 2012:
“I think we missed an opportunity to be cast together for Troy.”
Also note that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reportedly turned down the three Will Smith films- Hitch, Seven Pounds, and Tonight He Comes. The Men in Black actor desperately desired to collaborate with the Bollywood star, just like Pitt did.
Smith once stated:
“She [Aishwarya Rai Bachchan] has this powerful energy where she doesn’t have to say anything, do anything, she can just stand there. Anything she’s making, I’ll be there.”
Meanwhile, the World War Z actor was still willing to collaborate with the former Miss World. He also complimented the actress’ skills, saying:
“Given the chance, I would like to work with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan because she is a versatile actor. She is one of the most popular actresses of Bollywood, who has achieved huge acclaim in the west for her style, beauty and acting.”
For the unversed, Troy was the 60th highest-grossing movie at the time of its release with a global gross of over $497 million.
