Ever since Robert Downey Jr. bid goodbye to his iconic role of Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a lot of fans have been speculating if they will ever see their favorite ‘Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist‘ in action ever again. While promoting his upcoming series, Downey’s Dream Cars recently, the actor opened up about reprising his role as Iron Man once again and even warned another A-lister of not taking up the role.
Robert Downey Jr. warned Tom Cruise to not take up the role of Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise are possibly two of the biggest stars in the industry right now but the two A-listers have not shared the screen even once since 2008 when they starred together in Tropic Thunder. In a recent interview with Extra TV, the Iron Man actor opened up about doing another movie Cruise. The interviewer asked him, “Tropic Thunder, Tom Cruise is saying he’d like to do a sequel. Would you do it?”
Although the actors haven’t worked together in a long time, RDJ revealed that he would be down for making another with Cruise. He said, “Tom Cruise and I have not done a project yet together and that’s kind of a yes, and then we’d figure out what the title is.”
The actor was further asked about his future plans for a possible Iron Man 4 movie and he jokingly said, “Does he [Tom] wanna do that?” The actor further added, “Tom, don’t take it” as he walked off laughing with his wife, Susan Downey.
Tom Cruise respects the Avengers actor way too much to take up the role of Iron Man
Before Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Iron Man back in 2008, Tom Cruise was allegedly also being considered for the role. After, RDJ’s character sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame to save the world, many fans have now been asking the Mission Impossible actor to take up the role of Tony Stark in the MCU. However, Tom Cruise once revealed in an interview that he respects RDJ way too much to take up the role and said,
“I love Robert Downey and I can’t imagine anyone else doing that role and I think it’s perfect for him.”
Although a new Iron Man movie has not yet been announced by the studios, fans are still hoping that they would be able to see their beloved character in action once again in Avengers: Secret Wars.
All Ironman movies are now streaming on Disney+, while Tropic Thunder is available for rent on Amazon Prime Video.
