Internet Witnesses History in the Making as Deadpool 3 Reportedly First MCU Movie To Be R-rated

Ryan Reynolds is coming back to play Deadpool and he is bringing Hugh Jackman along for the ride. Needless to say, Deadpool 3 is going to be an entertaining watch and even that seems like an understatement. Both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s previous work as their characters say a lot about why Deadpool 3 is the most anticipated movie in the MCU.

While the actors have done justice bringing the characters to life in their own films, the films in which they have been together were an even more fun experience. Therefore, the fans (including us) are looking forward to the third installment of the Deadpool franchise, especially since it marks the debut of both superheroes in the MCU. What’s even more promising is that Deadpool 3 will be the superhero universe’s first R-rated movie, as confirmed by Kevin Feige.

Ever since it was announced that the Deadpool franchise is shifting to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were a bit worried. Deadpool is a character who has no filter and believes in doing whatever he wants. However, the MCU is collectively the complete opposite of Deadpool as it caters to a broader audience, which results in the superheroes becoming diluted. Fans did not want that for Deadpool. After all, he’s called Merc with a Mouth for a reason!

While there were a few teases and reports here and there about Deadpool 3 being R-rated, there were still speculations about it as you don’t know where the studios will go next. However, in a recent interview with EW, Kevin Feige himself confirmed that the film will be rated R. Coming from the President of Marvel, it looks like there’s no going back now!

“It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first Deadpool film within the MCU. That’s our first R-rated film. To have Hugh come back is incredible.”

Every fan is stoked to hear the news. Even though the reports more or less had the fans convinced about the rating, an official confirmation from Feige himself leaves absolutely no room for speculation anymore! Here’s what fans on Twitter have to say about the confirmation.

If the film was not R-rated, it would’ve been a difficult piece of news to swallow. The fans have always seen Deadpool in a certain light. If the MCU was to switch it up to fit into their criteria, it most certainly would’ve led to an uproar from the fans. It looks like MCU sure dodged a bullet with this one! We can only hope the movie lives up to the hype. Fingers crossed!

Deadpool 3 was Written with an R-rating in Mind

Deadpool 3 writer, Rhett Reese, assured the fans that the movie will not be “Disney-fied” just because it is coming to the MCU. This was before Feige’s confirmation and therefore, there was still some doubt at the back of his mind. However, talking to The Playlist, Reese appeared pretty confident in his words. He stated that while there were a few differences, Marvel was incredibly supportive of their ideas.

“It’s these [Disney] people and these people do things their way. And we were used to doing things our way, so there are differences, but I think the great part is that Marvel’s been incredibly supportive. They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It’s not like any particular joke may be the one that they say, ‘You know, that’s too far,’ that could happen, but to this point, it’s been nothing but support. It’s been nothing but, ‘How can we help you?’ What from our universe would you like to use? How can we make your life easy? And we’re gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool. We’re not… this is not going to be the Disney-fied Deadpool.

Reese was asked about whether Deadpool 3 is going to be R-rated or not to which he replied, “Oh, absolutely. They’re not gonna mess with the tone.” However, he then stated that he’d “Never say never” and that there’s always an outside chance. He also added that the film was being written with an R rating in mind saying,

“We’ve always been told it can be R-[rated] and we’re proceeding as if it’s R. We would like it to be R, we always have, so I don’t think that’ll change.”

It looks whatever small percent of worries Reese once had are no longer something to fret over. Deadpool was, is, and will always be the same guy we have got to know and love over the years.

Deadpool 3 hits the theatres on November 08, 2024.
