Miyazaki Claimed The Boy and the Heron to be his Last Film
Miyazaki before the beginning of the film, claimed that The Boy and the Heron, partially based on How Do You Live, would be his final film as a director. It only recently arrived in Japan and made an immediate impact at the box office. The highly anticipated picture will be released in the United States on December 8, 2023, following its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
A tweet shared by Eli Glasner himself stated: “Exiting news for fans of Hayao Miyazaki. Studio Ghibli VP Junichi Nishioka tells us The Boy and the Heron is not Miyazaki’s final film and that he is already coming into the office with new ideas. #TIFF23”
This has made a lot of noise and excitement among Miyazaki fans and they are eagerly waiting for his next project. Furthermore, The Boy and the Heron was a huge success in Japan, grossing $13.2 million during its opening weekend. Given the overwhelmingly positive response to Miyazaki’s most recent film, the famed animator may attempt to embark on another project soon. The Boy and the Heron opened the Toronto International Festival 2023. According to Nishioka, the film’s selection as the event opening has been a source of pride for him.
