Jason Momoa Was Completely in Debt After Game of Thrones

Jason Momoa’s time as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones ended after his character was killed off in the first season of the show. While his co-star Emilia Clarke, along with the rest of the cast, would go on to enjoy the show’s success in the upcoming seasons, it was not the same for Momoa.

During his interview with InStyle, the Aquaman actor shared that he struggled to pay bills and make ends meet after featuring in the HBO show. He said, “I mean, we were starving after Game of Thrones,” as Momoa shared that he was entirely in debt at the time.

“I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies, and you’re completely in debt,” the Slumberland actor shared. It wasn’t until the 2017 film Justice League that things got better for him. He describes getting the role of the DC superhero as the “best moment of [his] career,” as he was offered even more roles after getting cast as Aquaman.

“For a while afterward, a lot of people bagged on me. It hurt me a lot. People thought I didn’t speak English,” the Game of Thrones actor recalled during an interview. He shared that he did get a lot of respect for the show and had fun playing Drogo in Game of Thrones, but it did not help his acting career as “Khal Drago doesn’t even speak English.”

He felt hurtful due to his image in people and everyone assuming that he was just like Khal Drogo. He said that he just portrayed a character, and it does not define who he is off-screen. Momoa is set to reprise his role as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, in the sequel to his 2018 DC film.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release on 20 December 2023.
