Times like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 not having a traditional storyline and deciding to opt for multiplayer-focused gameplay instead brought backlash from the fans, something which the developing studio seemed to be unbothered by.

Another similar controversy that the famous franchise has been in earlier is when it decided to scrap the sequel to Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare for the development of another game. A developer of the same spoke about this event in an interview, something which we will be dissecting further in the article.

What Was Advanced Warfare About

Advanced Warfare game series is a first-person shooter video game series developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It was the eleventh installment in the franchise and was released worldwide on November 4, 2014, for many different platforms.

The game is set in the future and allows players to wall-run, double-jump, and boost jump. This was something unique from all the other games in the franchise and gave the game a more fluidic and aerobic movement.

In an interview with MinnMax, Bret Robins, a former dev who had worked on Advanced Warfare revealed how the sequel to the game almost happened, and even a demo was made for the same, but was scraped as WWII felt like a better opportunity to spend resources on.

“We had some early prototypes and might have even done a demo level of it, and then WW2 came back and felt like a better opportunity,”

Even after backlash from players due to the Jetpack Era which dominated the game after the release of Advanced Warfare, it was considered a major success and almost received a sequel, which was something ultimately the developers scrapped to pursue other projects.

What Was The Jetpack Era In Call Of Duty

The jetpack era in Advanced Warfare refers to the use of jetpacks and other advanced movement mechanics in the game. This era began with the release of Advanced Warfare in 2014 and ended with the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016.

Jetpacks were a major addition to how the movement mechanics in the game worked at the time, and this particular enhancement allowed players to move around the map much faster and more fluidly than in previous Call of Duty games.

Nonetheless, the sequel to one of the best games in the franchise is something the fans were robbed of, but seeing how in recent years the studio is bringing back old games after remastering them, there might be a chance they take up this project again with the intention of doing something unique.
