Blue Beetle starring Xolo Maridueña is DC’s next project and is one of the final projects to be completed before James Gunn and Peter Saffran begin to implement their plan for the franchise. The DC Universe has been suffering for the past few years since the brand hasn’t put out a single hit film or television program. Extremely disillusioned, many fans have even given up hope that their loved franchise will ever emerge from the ruins.
Currently, following the crisis of the Writers Guild of America, many famed celebrities and individuals have gone on strike, as they raise their voices against inadequate pay and unjust treatment. Xolo Maridueña has also spoken up supporting the WGA as he lately claimed that he won’t be promoting his upcoming movie, Blue Beetle. Things were already poor for DC and now it just looks like their dive down the rabbit hole will not end any time soon.
Blue Beetle Star Xolo Maridueña in Support of the WGA Strike
A youngster who comes into contact with an extraterrestrial entity and gains strength from it, giving him abilities like improved reflexes and superior armor, is the subject of the tale, Blue Beetle. The entity functions as a symbiote, guarding itself by bestowing divine abilities on its host. The film project began in late 2018 but has been put off for a variety of reasons, largely owing to the Covid outbreak and the global pandemic. It is now preparing for its August 2023 international premiere in theatres after reaching its last and most important step, the post-production and promotion phase. But there’s a major hiccup.
“I am making this video to address the recent news in the entertainment industry. If you haven’t heard, the actors are striking, we are striking in solidarity, SAG is striking in solidarity with the writers. I hope the issue gets resolved swiftly, it needs to be solved in the right way.
People who are asking for the right to live and work and thrive in the business should be allowed to and should be able to. And because of that reason, I won’t be able to promote the movie. We need to stay on the right side of history and because of that we are planting our feet to the ground.”
“We need to stay on the right side of history” is what he says. Xolo Maridueña, the lead actor in the movie has recently come out as a supporter of the WGA strike and claims that he won’t be able to prime his movie. Although he claims that the movie will be absolutely fantastic, he still wishes it the best. In the video that he shared on social media, the young actor seemed quite excited about his major breakthrough movie, as it will most likely be his shot to stardom. He feels blessed working with such an accomplished cast, crew, and the other members who have helped him bring the project to life.
The WGA Goes on a Strike Followed by SAG-AFTRA
As the WGA rebelled against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers earlier this year, Hollywood saw a sharp decline in television and film productions. Upcoming projects such as movies and TV shows face an inevitable delay. The WGA demanded a just increase in base pay along with the assurance that they would not be overthrown by AI. Actors who are members of the union are protesting fiercely with more than tens of thousands of writers in the business over a protracted labor dispute.
Even the performers are seeking a comprehensive overhaul of their working circumstances along with more pay, much like the writers. And today, with tensions between writers, actors, and the studios at an all-time high, Hollywood is on the verge of collapse at any time with its future dismal.
