Unlike Scarlett Johansson, Sandra Bullock Avoided Social Media After Knowing Dark Secrets in $110M Movie

While some celebrities enjoy staying active on social media, there are some who prefer avoiding it. Each of them has a reason of their own. While Scarlett Johansson completely avoids social media because she thinks it’s too harsh for her, fellow actress Sandra Bullock has an entirely different reason for staying away from the same.

Sandra Bullock is one of the most excellent actresses in Hollywood who has proved her mettle in almost every genre. From action to romance, the actress has done it all and even won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side. But one movie, though did not win her accolades, taught the actress an important lesson.

Sandra Bullock learned the dark side of social media through her movie

Training for her movie, The Net which came out in 1995, opened Sandra Bullock‘s eyes to how dangerous social media can be. In the movie, Bullock played the role of Angela Bennett a computer programmer who stumbles upon the secret government files. She flies to save herself while the enemy is trying to track her down and destroy her completely.

The movie surely was way ahead of its time and her hacking training taught her a lot about how dark and dangerous the internet world is. She also has a more personal reason for staying off social media as well. In a 2022 interview on The Jesse Cagle Show, the actress shared how the movie impacted her. She told the show’s host,

“You’ve just unearthed the social gem. I have been like, no one has asked me, so I figured they didn’t want to know. I learned a lot. We met real hackers.”

This was the first time the actress revealed why she stays off social media. Meeting real-life hackers instilled a fear in her about how easily anyone can find out every detail about the other person through the internet.

Also in a 2018 interview with Instyle, she stated she had personal reasons to stay away from social media as well,

“I’m just lazy. But I’m going to get on it and troll my friends. Once my kids are using it, I’ll know how to navigate it. I don’t want to be naïve.”

So, at some point, we can expect the actress to join social media, when her children do. But for now, she is going to stay away from it.

Scarlett Johansson thinks she is too fragile for social media

While Sandra Bullock’s reason is the fear of the dark side of social media, Scarlett Johansson prefers to stay away from social media because she thinks she is too fragile for it. The Marvel actress is the queen of action movies and has proven her versatile acting skills in some drama movies as well like Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit. Despite all the acclaim, the actress fears the scrutiny netizens put each celebrity through and hence avoids the same.

She shared on the The Skinny Confidential Him & Her, “I can’t. My ego is too fragile. My brain is too fragile. I’m like a delicate flower.” She also stated that she has enough anxiety to deal with, without social media in her life. She further shared,

“I had Instagram once for three days and when I started realizing that I’d spent 20 minutes looking at somebody’s Instagram page who worked for a friend of mine. I now know you have a pit bull and two daughters and you live in, like, Burbank.”

Though she does have a page for her skincare brand, The Outset, she prefers not to create her personal account on social media.
