As a result, Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision was immensely popular, and it was a unique show as it blended the style of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with classic sitcoms similar to those in the 80-90s. On one hand, the show was immensely praised by fans and critics, while on the other hand, the VFX workers who had worked on the film opened up about the poor working conditions with low pay and inhuman working hours, and now they have decided to fight back for their rights.

VFX Workers Have Decided To Fight Their Poor Working Conditions

The VFX industry is extremely unfair as it tends to exploit the artists using short-term contracts, and chases tax incentives across the globe. As a result, production studios like Marvel tend to harass their VFX artists, as they tend to release their productions at the cost of the artists’ health. Hence, earlier this week, over 50 VFX artists working at Marvel Studios voted to file for a union election at the National Labor Relations Board to be represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE).

Recently, Mark Patch a former coordinator of WandaVision told IGN about the reason for their strike, and how asking basic needs is not an outrageous demand by the VFX artists.

“These are companies which are making billions of dollars off of our work, so the reasonableness of our demands – asking just to be put on the same deal as the people working alongside of us and be given access to health care and a pension fund and the basic protections of work – we feel that this is one of the most reasonable demands that anyone’s ever made.”

Mark Patch continued that artists should not be afraid to raise their voices against the poor working conditions presented to them.

“There’s an effort to get by with as few people as possible and wait for us to basically raise hell and say, ‘We are not sleeping anymore. We haven’t seen our families. We’re working every weekend. Then that’s when they say, ‘Oh, okay, we’ll get some more bodies’ sometimes.”

In an attempt to join the IATSE, the VFX artists aim to be protected by the terms under IATSE’s Basic Agreement, which includes minimum wage increases, the MPI pension and health care plan, turnaround improvements, meal penalty improvements, and more. Hence, the terms make sure that the VFX industry is saved from exploitation by industry giants like Marvel.

Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision Successor Receives a Disappointing Update

The strike by the VFX artists adds to the problem of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as all the recent projects of the franchise failed to impress the audiences. Despite trying to replicate the former success of the franchise, the Marvel Studios have failed miserably and Secret Invasion is a clear display of their degrading quality.

The SAG-AFTRA and WGA were already on strike and now that the VFX artists have decided to raise their voices, almost all of Hollywood has come to a standstill. Moreover, most of the major projects have been delayed, and reflect a bleak future ahead, as they do not know when the strike will come to a halt. And just like other massive franchises, an anticipating MCU project became the strike’s victim.

With Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision Marvel kicked off a new era, where the TV Series would be intertwined with the movies, resulting in a massive outcome. Although it can’t be said because Doctor Strange 2 was a massive failure, Elizabeth Olsen’s TV Series showed potential as it was positively received.

It was announced that Agatha Harkness would get a show of its own, but later it was announced that it’ll act as the second season of the Disney+ TV Series. As a result, fans have to wait for an unfixed period of time for the second season of the show, as it will answer numerous questions that fans had while watching the first season of the show.
