Jon Favreau’s contribution to the world of Marvel and Star Wars has been incredible in its versatility and range. Considering how the actor-producer-director has actively been overseeing the current production and execution of the arc of Disney’s The Mandalorian, the fans can only hope that justice is done to the narrative of the upcoming seasons. But there seems to be a catch.
While the MandoVerse keeps expanding in terms of its characters and their individual stories, Favreau’s plans for a crossover event has given way to worry that diluting the existing narrative with more show-and-tell and big character arcs might result in a subpar future for Star Wars in television.

Jon Favreau’s Plans For a MandoVerse Crossover Event
The Mandalorian, the first live-action spin-off series from the Lucasfilm universe, did begin a revolution in terms of series projects in streaming but with more seasons being added to the roster, it seems that fans are more inclined towards preserving the story and quitting when it’s still ahead. This new fan approach towards a series that is so well-received has rarely ever been witnessed before.
But with the number of projects at Disney failing to soar past its prime increasing drastically, the skepticism on the fandom’s part looks well founded. As such, Jon Favreau has claimed that The Mandalorian looks to keep the progression of its arc fresh and the crew is prepared to deliver something new to the table in the form of a massive MandoVerse crossover event –
“By Dave [Filoni] and I being involved with all the show within this timeframe, we could start to make everything have connection points that inevitably lead to conflicts and resolution.”
The talks of that happening had been going around since last year when Favreau made the announcement as part of 2022’s Star Wars Celebration at Anaheim. The fans have been consistently looking forward to hearing more about the MandoVerse crossover but not much progress on that front was heard of until now.
Fans Remain Skeptical of the Lineup For the Crossover

With The Mandalorian being currently lined up for its Season 3 release, the fandom is looking forward to Favreau’s updates on his promised MandoVerse culmination event and the director did not disappoint. During a promotional interview for the series’s premiere, he announced:
“Season 4, yeah I’ve written it already. We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully formed story. We had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I, and slowly you start to write each episode. I was writing it during post-production. All of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story.”
This not only means that the narrative of the story has a potentially well-rounded story to deliver for the audience but that with Filoni’s combined storytelling, the crossover event is closer to being realized.
At the same time, the audience who has been a part of the intergalactic universe for years now are increasingly skeptical of the direction in which Favreau intends to take the story by making it combined with the larger universe and more characters from the Star Wars mythology, a case which can end up being very similar to Marvel fatigue, if not handled carefully.
This nervousness arises from the idea that with more characters and storylines being added into the mix, the central focus of the story is bound to shift from its original direction and become more discursive in the future. Legacy characters, no matter how important, need to stay as separate individual entities even if they intend to be a part of the broader MandoVerse without affecting the singular approach of the Pedro Pascal-helmed series.
The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres on Disney+ on March 1, 2023.
