Daniel Radcliffe has been a part of all of our childhood by playing the brilliant wizard prodigy, Harry Potter. The actor, who spent 10 years of his life on the sets of the popular franchise, earned a stardom that very few have been able to even in their entire lifetimes.
While none of the young actors had ever been to acting schools or the sorts, each exhibited a raw form of acting that led them to become worldwide sensations overnight. However, Radcliffe is of a different opinion and considers re-watching the movies an absolute torture.
Daniel Radcliffe Hates Re-watching His Harry Potter Movies
Most actors acknowledge that they get the icks while watching themselves on screen. And Daniel Radcliffe is no different. The actor who starred in the Harry Potter franchise from the age of eleven admits he didn’t have any formal training in the art. Thus, whatever the audience saw was him learning and improving while acting in the magical franchise. Hence, he remains quite critical of his young self, absolutely detesting watching the first two movies due to his shortcomings and impromptu performance.
“For me to look back on the old films is an almost entirely destructive thing to do. I just torture myself over it. I mean, I was young. I can’t be held accountable for the performance I gave in the first two films: I was 11 and 12. I wasn’t like Dakota Fanning … who could seemingly just do it. It was very much a child’s performance.”
Calling the opportunity a double-edged sword, he feels privileged to have been part of such an amazing cast and at the same time cursed to have his shortcomings and flaws of the craft on the big screen, with critics blasting off the young actor’s efforts. While the Harry Potter star might consider him lacking in comparison to the rest, the massive fan following he has garnered over the years would say otherwise.
Radcliffe Thinks He Got Cast Because He Looked Right
There is a general perception that actors either get cast due to their talent or because they just look right for the part. Daniel Radcliffe, who starred in the Harry Potter franchise along with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, believes the latter. In an interview with GQ, he was quoted as saying,
“I think there’s a perception that we got the parts because we looked right. I think that’s probably quite fair. Also, acting is something that I don’t necessarily think comes naturally to me. Certainly not as natural as it does to, say, Haley Joel Osment or Dakota Fanning, who were just giving full-blown adult performances at the age of ten.”
While he certainly does resemble the Chosen One, many of his millions of fans would say it was fate that he got cast as Harry Potter. And we couldn’t agree less.
You can stream all of the Harry Potter movies on Amazon Prime.
