Pedro Pascal has marked his name in some of the most critically acclaimed projects over the years, including Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian, and the recent The Last of Us. But the show which showcased Pascal’s skill as a masterful actor was the series Narcos.
Although the series may not have an immense fan following like Netflix’s other shows, like Stranger Things, it is considered among the best shows that the platform has released. However, after three successful seasons of the show, Pedro Pascal decided to quit the Netflix classic for safety issues.
Pedro Pascal left Netflix’s Narcos for safety issues
Pedro Pascal has cemented his name among some of the best actors working in the realm of TV shows. But the show which showcased his abilities as an accomplished actor was Netflix’s critically acclaimed Narcos. But the actor eventually decided to leave the Netflix show after a run of three seasons after the murder of their fellow crew member.
In 2017, Carlos Muñoz Portal was scouting a location for the next season of Narcos, but Portal found himself in a tragic incident. According to reports by TMZ, the dead body of Portal was discovered in a remote location near the Hidalgo state border. This tragedy immediately alerted Pedro Pascal, who stated that the filming shouldn’t start for the series before ensuring total security for the crew members. He went on to state,
“We can’t do it if it’s not safe, We’re talking about lives. If they want to do it, then they’ll figure it out in a safe way.”
At the time Pablo Escober’s brother Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria sent a chilling message to Netflix after the murder of Portal and said that he would “close their little show down”. And as a result of all these reasons, Pedro Pascal decided to leave the show for good.
Netflix decided to continue the show despite the tragedy
Despite the safety issues and the murder of Carlos Muñoz Portal, Netflix continued to film the upcoming seasons of their show. They also scrapped their ideas for the fourth season of the critically acclaimed show and moved forward with a new spin-off Narcos: Mexico, which focused on the Juarez cartel in Mexico.
The new spin-off witnessed an all-new star cast with a few familiar faces from the original show, but without Pedro Pascal, who didn’t return for the spin-off. At the time, Netflix also shared condolences to the family of Portal after his tragic death. Netflix added,
“We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family.”
Although fans were saddened by the exclusion of Pedro Pascal from the cult classic, his exit from the show eventually became a blessing in disguise. Since then, the actor has starred in many critically acclaimed projects and is currently a part of the ongoing show The Last of Us, which has garnered immense love from both fans and critics.
