Oppenheimer, director Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus is all set to collide with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie in July. With Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead role, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. may get to battle it out when both movies release on the same day.
It seems that both the movies have been deliberately placed on the same release date as Warner Bros. Discovery is essentially showing a middle finger to the Interstellar director for leaving their production house and joining Universal Studios!
Warner Bros. Discovery Is Humiliating Christopher Nolan
With a deal gone bad, Christopher Nolan left Warner Bros. Discovery after their 2020 movie Tenet went off the track. With a high budget of $200 million, the film barely managed to break even with the profits. This led to other Warner Bros. movies sharing theater screens right next to each other.
The director had been quite vocal about this decision and eventually left his partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery and joined Universal Studios. Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Oppenheimer marks the director’s first movie with Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery is here to show a middle finger to the director. Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is produced by Warner Bros. Discovery and hence, the clashes of the dates.
As per reports by Puck, the clashes of the dates were placed intentionally since Warner Bros. Discovery wanted to compete with the veteran director. With both movies on the verge of release, there are some bad speculations for Nolan fans. According to reports, Nolan’s upcoming Oppenheimer will be R-rated.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Will Be R-rated!
With over 20 years of PG-13 movies in the making, the Inception director is all set to break his rule once again by making Oppenheimer an R-rated film. This hadn’t been the case so since 2002 when Nolan released the Thriller/Crime movie Insomnia.
Universal Pictures recently confirmed that Oppenheimer is rated R for “some sexuality, nudity, and language”. Quite an unusual thing to see in a Christopher Nolan movie. It however affects the box office collection of both films since Barbie (being PG-13) will have a much wider audience as compared to Oppenheimer. With clashes of the two magnum opuses, the Cillian Murphy starrer Oppenheimer and the Margot Robbie starrer Barbie are set for a release date of 21st July 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
