"Warner Bros. begged me to do the movie": Unlike George Clooney Arnold Schwarzenegger Does Not Regret Being a Part of 'Batman and Robin' Despite Its Disastrous Worldwide Collection

If there has been any superhero franchise that has stood the test of time and made a loyal fanbase over the years, then the Batman Franchise has to take the top spot. Beginning its journey from the first film titled Batman in 1989 which starred Michael Keaton, the franchise has only expanded to astronomical proportions, with many Hollywood juggernauts having donned the cowl and the cape to play the vigilante of Gotham City.

And since then, there have been several iterations of the caped crusader along the years. Although all the different versions had found commercial success in their time, the film starring George Clooney titled Batman and Robin that came out in 1997 was a complete disaster that Coolney wants to forget. But on the other hand, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the star who played the role of Mr. Freeze in the film had a completely different experience.

There have been a lot of memorable stars that have taken the mantle of Batman and breathed life into the character with their talents and hard work, but not everyone was lucky with the premise they were given to work with. George Clooney, one of the iconic names of the Hollywood industry was part of the 1997 Batman and Robin, a film that he regrets ever playing the part of the caped crusader. But the antagonist, who was none other than Mr. Olympia champion Arnold Schwarzenegger, was happy to be a part of the film, despite the abysmal response.

While Clooney has always talked about if he could change one thing about his career, he would choose not to do the 1997 film at all while also talking about what he learned from being the lead cast of a film like this. Also, he revealed that while he was paid a hefty sum for his part, it was nothing compared to Schwarzenegger, who was paid $25 Million for his contributions. During an interview with ComicBook, the Twins actor revealed that apart from the paycheck, he also doesn’t regret shooting the film as it was an interesting challenge and opportunity for him to play a different role. He said:

“I don’t regret it at all. I felt that the character was interesting and two movies before that one Joel Schumacher was at his height. So the decision-making process was not off. At the same time I was doing Eraser over there and Warner Bros. begged me to do the movie.”

Being in so high demand as well as being a favorite to work with back in the day, it’s no wonder that the Terminator star was given such a priority treatment.

With the advent of James Gunn and Peter Safran into the picture, the current roster of actors in the DCU is about to change, which also applies to the stars who are playing the role of Batman. With the latest announcement by DC Studios’ CEO, it’s clear that there are going to be two Batman from Warner Bros. While Robert Pattinson will be playing the role of Bruce Wayne, he will be a part of DCU’s Elseworlds franchise that will be separate from the primary timeline. Then, there will also be another Batman along with Robin in the future in the main timeline that’ll connect to the conclusion of Chapter 1.
