There’s some good news for Call of Duty fans waiting for Modern Warfare 3. Whilst we are still awaiting the latest Call of Duty title, it looks like Activision are working in the background to implement something new for the franchise when it launches in the Autumn. They intend to allow cosmetic carryover between the previous game and the new title.
Looking at the official Call of Duty Twitter page, there was a recent post which included a poll of whether Modern Warfare II’s Operators, Weapons and bundles, should carry forward into the new title simply named Call of Duty 2023.
The results of the poll were pretty unsurprising given that the two options were ‘Yes’ or ‘Yes, when is reveal’. This can only mean that the decision has already been made on this and that Activision are just teasing fans, given that no date for release has been announced as yet.

Previously cosmetic carryover has been viewed as an issue for Call of Duty, given that Activision release every year and there is little to no connectivity between the games themselves. With online warfare games, there is always the option to unlock new items, sometimes at a cost, to use over the course of the gameplay. But given that there is a new Call of Duty title every year, much of the unlocked items are left behind. Meaning that the time spent trying to unlock certain skins or weapons and any money invested has potentially been a waste of time.
However it seems that Activision are looking to remedy this and keep in line with other live-service games, even with the progression of titles which appear annually.
What to expect from Modern Warfare 3
It might not be a surprise but as with other major titles, the upcoming Call of Duty title has been subject to major leaks. Although there has been no official announcement as yet, we’re sure that we’ll see Modern Warfare 3 being revealed very soon.
We say this because there was a recent Activision complaint which saw some leaked images of an Alpha version of the game which in turn revealed the title. So given this, it would be no surprise that we would see Activision making an announcement in the not so distant future.
Further rumours of the upcoming title state that it will be a ‘premium’ release of the franchise, despite previous rumours stating that it would be a downscaled entry. There is said to be a full campaign mode, multiplayer and of course that old favourite, zombies!
But some gamers were quick to point out that the new Modern Warfare 3 could so with learning a lesson from it’s predecessor which first launched in 2011. Although it rated highly, there was substantial criticism of the campaign mode which was said by some to be ‘lacking’ in story and that it didn’t last nearly as long as other campaigns. Given the time that has passed, hopefully Activision will take this on board and deliver a more pleasing narrative.
