Two and a Half Men must be a well-versed topic for ardent fans of sitcoms. The show starring Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen in lead roles has a wide fan following and is still loved by many. The sitcom undoubtedly roped in a lot of money for the makers as well as the cast. Sheen even found his name on the list of the highest-paid actors due to this show. But unfortunately, a lot of personal issues led to the firing of the Charlie Harper actor from the project that paid him the most.
Charlie Sheen made a lot of headlines during his last days on the show. Starting from substance use to several other issues, the actor’s career was facing a decline. But despite all this, he continued to be the highest-paid individual which troubled his co-star Jon Cryer very much.
Jon Cryer’s comments on Charlie Sheen’s salary
Two and a Half Men was one of the biggest things in the career of all the stars associated with it. The widely popular sitcom earned them large figures and even made Charlie Sheen the highest-paid actor on television. The Platoon actor received a gargantuan sum of $1.8 million per episode and this troubled his co-star Jon Cryer quite a lot.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Cryer stated that Sheen was slowly steering far away from sobriety during his last days on the show. The actor often acted weirdly and his work was completely different from how he worked during the previous seasons. The show creator Chuck Lorre also advised Cryer to have a talk with Sheen regarding his condition which couldn’t happen as the actor went to rehab the next scene. But among everything, Jon Cryer was most disappointed with the Lucas actor’s salary.
“The next day, though, Charlie went into rehab, so we never got to have that conversation. Charlie did, however, have a different kind of productive conversation — with Warner Bros. Despite falling off the wagon, a rocky marriage, looming felony charges and possible time behind bars, he managed to secure a massive raise [to $1.8 million an episode], fully three times what I was being paid.”
It can be understood from his statements that he was not impressed with the fact. He joked that he would also plan for some highly publicized controversial events which will also raise his salary. But even the gargantuan salary couldn’t satisfy him and Charlie Sheen claimed that he was underpaid. On the other hand, he also criticized Chuck Lorre with offensive comments which finally led Ashton Kutcher to replace him and put his Two and a Half Men story to a complete end.
What did Charlie Sheen think about his actions?
During an interview with Yahoo, Charlie Sheen admitted that he did exactly the things he was not supposed to. The Free Money actor regretted his actions very much and took full responsibility for what he did.
“There was 55 different ways for me to handle that situation, and I chose number 56. And so, you know, I think the growth for me post-meltdown or melt forward or melt somewhere — however you want to label it — it has to start with absolute ownership of my role in all of it. And it was desperately juvenile.”
However, a recent report by Deadline suggests that Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre might re-unite soon in the Max comedy series named How To Be a Bookie. Even though Sheen starred in an FX series titled Anger Management which ran for two seasons from 2012 to 2014, the upcoming project might be an outstanding comeback for him.
