Uma Thurman’s portrayal of The Bride was highly praised at the time with Quentin Tarantino‘s direction getting major acclaim. However, their relationship was quite complex as the actress didn’t have a smooth journey while filming the Kill Bill series.

After wrapping up the filming, she shared her experience working on the set which she felt unsafe. Not only did she accuse the latter of abusing her, but she mentioned how the filmmaker convinced her to perform a car stunt which ended up getting her hurt.

She mentioned,

“He said, ‘I promise you the car is fine. It’s a straight piece of road…. Hit 40 miles per hour or your hair won’t blow the right way and I’ll make you do it again.’ But that was a deathbox that I was in. The seat wasn’t screwed down properly. It was a sand road and it was not a straight road.”

Calling the incident a “dehumanization to the point of death”, the car crash caused permanent injuries to her neck and knees. Though she later released the video of her infamous car crash on her Instagram stating that the filmmaker was remorseful about the unfortunate incident.

She also mentioned in a different interview about being choked by him. Not only that, but he also spitted on her during takes of Kill Bill. Even the famous director didn’t deny his doing but mentioned spitting on her to pull off the scene. Regarding her choking revelation, he mentioned it was all her idea.

Despite what she went through while filming the 2000s film, she was willing to work with him. In an interview on Entertainment Weekly, she referred to a car crash incident and opened up about fighting him for years.

“We’ve had our fights over the years. When you know someone for as long as I’ve known him, 25 years of creative collaboration…yes, did we have some tragedies take place? Sure. But you can’t reduce that type of history and legacy.”

She admitted that their bond was majorly affected for over three years since she went through a difficult phase.

“It affected me and Uma for the next two to three years. It wasn’t like we didn’t talk. But a trust was broken.”

But she is still ready to dump the bad history. On being asked whether she would work with him again, she responded,

“If he wrote a great part! I understand him and if he wrote a great part and we were both in the right place about it, that would be something else.”

However, what made her most wounded was the unhealthy working conditions she was in at the time. The Kill Bill: Volume 1 & 2 were a major success grossing over $332 million altogether, which is now available on HBO Max.
