Ubisoft Forward: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Gets Gameplay Trailer – Far Cry, with Blue People?

Along with seemingly every other man and his dog over the last few weeks, Ubisoft joined in the showcase bonanza and showed off a select few of their games. It’s widely known that the last year has been pretty quiet on the games front for Ubisoft, with only two released games, but now we’re getting to the point of a deluge of releases from them, starting in October with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and continuing well into 2024.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Developed, Delayed and Disappointing?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Ubisoft have become known as the developer that revels in open world video games. With their flagship franchises being Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, it’s no surprise they were the studio entrusted to develop an open-world Star Wars game in Star Wars Outlaws and as well as the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Unfortunately for gamers though, whilst Ubisoft are well versed in creating an open world, they’re also culpable for creating large, empty open worlds which whilst massive, they involve a lot of travelling and nothing really to do (see Far Cry, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, the most recent trilogy of Assassin’s Creed and so on).

Originally due to release in 2022 which coincided with the release of Avatar: The Way of the Water after a thirteen year absence, the game was quietly delayed into 2023, with no concrete release date or new information until now. Whilst it’s been known the game will have an open-world feel to it, almost customary for Ubisoft these days, and be a first-person shooter, not much else was shown or known. Now we have some concrete details.

Seemingly set during the same time period of the second film, players will be taking on the role of a Na’vi, who having been trained years prior by the humans invading the planet, wakes up from a long sleep and uses the skills she has learned, as well as the resources from the planet around her, to fight back against the invading force once more.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Story wise not much more has been released, but we do know it’ll be taking part on the Western Frontier, a part of the planet we’ve yet to see on the big screen, and players will be able to be joined by a friend during the entirety of the adventure, making the campaign a fully co-operative experience.

How much of the ‘traditional’ Na’vi experience we’ll be privy to is also unknown, but the military training the playable character was subjected to years prior will no doubt ensure they can handle every gun they find, from pistol to the staple of a first-person-shooter, a grenade launcher. Skydiving and by the looks of it animal riding will be present, but personally if we can’t use gigantic bow and arrows to skewer humans, it won’t be a proper Avatar experience.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is due to launch December 7th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC, assuming there’s no more delays, of course. This is the start of a huge twelve months of Ubisoft. Will you be buying Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora?
