Tom Cruise may not have won an Oscar yet, but the heart-throbbing star continues to amaze the world with the kind of stardom he’s achieved. But even the most eligible bachelor in H-town got a fair share of insecurities. The Top Gun: Maverick star, who is surely living up to his hunk persona, found that status fumbling since Robert Pattinson’s box office success with Twilight over $353.8 million cult-classic Top Gun.
Tom Cruise Got Intimidated By Robert Pattinson
Actors may come and go, but legends are remembered. Such is the case of Tom Cruise, who despite his love-life failures amid the Scientology conflict, continues to remain one of the most promising stars to date. The Mission: Impossible 2 star, who proudly carries his “hunk status” even at fre*k*ng 60, was once intimidated by Robert Pattinson.
Pattinson’s role as Edward Cullen in the $3.4 billion franchise, The Twilight Saga, established him as one of the most famous actors on the planet. Twilight grossed and it was Tom Cruise who felt defeated as the young star became a part of the $3.3 billion franchise. Cruise’s, cult-classic, Top Gun, grossed over $353.8 million worldwide.
A Hollywood producer revealed that the actor was “trying too hard to be cool” at the MTV Movie Awards because he was afraid of losing his “The Hollywood Hunk” status to Pattinson, who gained overnight stardom with Twilight. The source added:
“He’s going to try his hardest to do whatever he can to stay on top — and if that means trying to outshine Rob, he will.”
For instance, in 2010, Cruise released his Knight and Day within 5 days of the 24-year-old actor’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse release. While James Mangold movie, also starring Cameron Diaz grossed $261 million worldwide, Eclipse grossed a whopping $698 million. No comparison, no comparison!
Robert Pattinson’s Got His Own Set Of Fears
While Tom Cruise may have tried “too hard to be cool” when it comes to Robert Pattinson, there’s a whole classic section of fans who wouldn’t even like to compare the two hunks, one being yours truly. While the A Few Good Men actor remains an enchanter, Pattinson’s will to dare to be repellant, often gave up some of the most rewarding roles during his career.
But again, Pattinson’s got his fears whilst Catherine Hardwicke-directed Twilight stardom. As the actor picked up Bruce Wayne’s character for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, a role played by legends like Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck, his fans were convinced that the young hunk knows to play with fire.
What is also true is that the actor was scared of living up to the caped crusader’s dark psyche. During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, Pattinson revealed that he was “absolutely terrified” to watch the final cut of the movie. It was natural to be intimidated by legends like Michael Keaton and George Clooney.
Luck, like always, fell in his favor and the movie grossed over $772 million worldwide. Robert Pattinson and Tom Cruise are both A-listers despite their set of fears, but drawing a comparison would be an insult to the latter. Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide, receiving an Oscar for Best Sound over Pattinson’s The Batman.
The 60-year-old actor has convinced his fans that it’s hard to take away that hunk status yet as the actor gears up for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.
