Amber Heard’s Aquaman 2 is scheduled to release in December this year. After her public lawsuit against ex-Johnny Depp and her subsequent loss, the movie would mark her first major appearance on the big screen. However, despite the movie being an anticipated sequel, there has been no press tour, zero marketing, and not even a trailer from DC, which seems surprising if not concerning.
While at the Las Vegas ComicCon, the details of the movie were screened including a short trailer, there has not even been a hint of details revealed publicly. DC’s lack of marketing has convinced fans that perhaps James Gunn has lost faith in his vision of DCU.
Fans Shocked At DC’s Lack Of Marketing Of Amber Heard’s Aquaman 2
Ever since James Gunn took over the reins of DC, the superhero universe has been swarming with multiple controversies. The Flash’s terrible box-office performance despite the over-hyped publicity further made things hard for DCverse. Now as Amber Heard starrer Aquaman 2 is set to release soon, things have been very very quiet.
Even quiet would be an understatement since there have been no teasers or trailers even though the movie is just four months away. This is even more shocking since Aquaman was DC’s first movie to cross the billion-dollar mark and ever since fans have been eager to see Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman back on the big screen.
Certain fans believe this could be a marketing tactic to save the movie from negative publicity like it happened with The Flash and the recently released Blue Beetle. Furthermore, releasing the trailer near to release would maybe help save the movie from failure.
However, others seem to hold the opinion that the movie is a miserable sequel to the blockbuster movie since it went over three re-shoots and multiple edits. And that James Gunn has completely lost faith in his ‘DC Universe’ after Zack Snyder’s exit.
Has James Gunn Lost Faith In His DCU Vision?
Amber Heard starrer Aquaman 2 boasts a 205 million dollar budget. For a movie with such a high production cost, it has already gone under three reshoots and has replaced ‘Batman’ thrice. While Aquaman is more synonymous with Zack Snyder‘s Snyderverse, the movie doesn’t seem to fit with James Gunn’s ‘narrative’.
Furthermore, after DC’s terrible box-office failure, and lack of marketing from DC, fans can’t help but think maybe James Gunn doesn’t believe in his ‘vision’ of DC anymore. Or rather he is perhaps not confident about his venture into what was before a Snyderverse’s ‘territory’.
Whatever the reason may be for DC’s complete silence before the release of Aquaman 2, fans are convinced seeing the developments so far that the movie would end up being the same fiasco as The Flash.
Aquaman 2 will be released in theatres in December 2023.
