The upcoming Transformers film, Rise of the Beasts, will not feature the return of Mark Wahlberg. Many of the actor’s fans were caught off guard by this announcement, as they had been looking forward to his imminent return.
Wahlberg first appeared in the series’ fourth film, Age of Extinction, and starred in the fifth film, The Last Knight. Unfortunately for fans of Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager, the upcoming film takes place before the events of those films so Yeager won’t be making an appearance.
Why Mark Wahlberg is not Returning to Transformers?
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will introduce new characters, travel through time, and deepen the Transformers universe. Longtime fans of the franchise will be thrilled by the new narrative and setting opportunities presented by the addition of Beast Wars characters.
Many new characters will be featured in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, set in 1994. Human leads Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback will be joined by several Beast Wars characters making big screen debuts in this film. Fans of the Beast Wars franchise are in for a real treat, as this is the first time these characters have ever been portrayed in live-action.
There will be some returning cast members in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and brand-new characters. The upcoming film will feature new versions of fan favorites like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron. The film will introduce Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons, three new subgroups of the Transformers franchise not previously seen in live-action films.
Mark Wahlberg is not Needed Here
Mark Wahlberg’s absence from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts can be attributed, at least in part, to scheduling conflicts. Although Wahlberg’s character debuted in the series in 2014, the film is set in the 1990s.
This rules out the possibility of Cade Yeager playing a role in the narrative. Even though the Transformers films have never been especially concerned with continuity, it is clear that the filmmakers are trying to tell a more consistent and well-developed story in the new films.
They expanded the scope of the Transformers universe and introduced new characters by placing Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in the past. The actor’s busy schedule may also prevent him from returning to the series.

Wahlberg is a prolific actor who could have easily been unavailable to film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts due to his schedule being too full. Wahlberg has had a varied and fruitful acting career, so it’s possible that scheduling conflicts prevented him from returning to the role of Cade Yeager.
Mark Wahlberg was last seen in films like Uncharted, Infinite, Father Stu, and TV shows like Wahlburgers and Spenser: Confidential. Given his busy schedule, it’s easy to see why he might not have been able to make time for a new Transformers film.
Was Mark Wahlberg Interested in the New Transformers?
It’s also possible that Wahlberg may not have been interested in returning to the Transformers franchise. Although he has nothing but good things to say about his time in the film industry, he may have needed to broaden his creative horizons.
The critical reception of the Transformers franchise has always been mixed, and it’s possible that Wahlberg wanted to distance himself from the series to concentrate on other projects. Another possibility is that the filmmakers wanted to take the story in a new direction, introducing fresh faces and concepts rather than returning to familiar ground.
Transformers Rise of the Beasts will be released on June 9, 2023.
