The Witcher season 3 is the end of an era. Sure, Joey Batey, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra will continue the journey to season 4, but without Henry Cavill, the journey will remain incomplete. It has already been revealed that Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Geralt of Rivia.
But what are the co-stars of Cavill feeling about this change? Now that the press for season 3 of The Witcher is going on, the stars of the show are giving their opinions on the lead actor change. It looks like, at least Joey Batey is looking forward to Hemsworth taking over.
Joey Batey Is Excited For Liam Hemsworth To Join The Witcher Cast
In an interview with ComicBook, Joey Batey, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra, who play Jaskier, Ciri, and Yennefer, sat down to answer questions about the newest season of The Witcher. They were asked about their feelings on Henry Cavill’s departure. Anya Chalotra revealed that they were excited for Liam Hemsworth to come on board, but the Justice League star’s loss is huge. She said:
“Excited. Yeah, can’t wait to have Liam on board. Well, he is, but to meet him and have him as Geralt. It’s going to be bizarre, and I feel like I’m definitely going to feel that loss. I think we all will.”
Joey Batey stepped in to back up Chalotra’s words on the Man of Steel star, saying that his impact on the series is paramount. He also revealed that Cavill was a refreshing presence on-set as well who would crack jokes often. He said:
“Behind the scenes, he’s always just been very, very supportive and funny, good-natured professional who was always the first to laugh on those bad days and to crack jokes, and that presence is cemented in the DNA of the show.”

However, Batey did compliment Liam Hemsworth’s preparation in another interview. He said:
“And you know, we’ve emailed and exchanged book quotes, that sort of thing. And by all accounts, it sounds like he’s (Liam Hemsworth) just in training. He’s taking on the role incredibly seriously.”
So can the new Geralt of Rivia rival Cavill’s dedication towards the show? Batey’s words hint that may be the case. But it doesn’t mean that the cast isn’t going to miss the former Superman star. Freya Allan even admitted that she cried when she heard that her co-star was leaving.
Freya Allan Cried When She Found Out That Henry Cavill Was Leaving The Witcher
In the Netflix show, Freya Allan’s Ciri is like a surrogate daughter to Henry Cavill’s Geralt. As such, they share a strong bond on-screen and apparently off-screen too. The actress revealed that the news of the Enola Holmes star departing the show came months after they wrapped the third season, and it caught her off-guard. Allan said:
“We found out quite a few months after wrapping… we found out the day before the world found out. It was a shock Everyone was in shock at the same time. I cried when I found out; I just didn’t expect it. I feel very connected to him through our characters. It was sad.”
However, the cast is also trying to move forward together during this transition phase. They are trying to respect Cavill’s legacy, while also welcoming Liam Hemsworth in the cast.
