Tom Holland reveals his most difficult action sequence

In an interview with Yahoo!, Tom Holland opened up on the aerial sequence during the filming of his and Mark Wahlberg’s film, Uncharted. There are numerous action scenes and stunts in the video game adaptation film. One of the sequences involves Holland’s character, Drake, clambering over crate pallets in a barrel of monkeys. The sequence took place on a cargo plane.

The Cherry star shared,

“It’s easily the hardest action sequence I’ve ever done, but I think it’s equally as rewarding. I haven’t seen an action sequence like this in a movie for a very long time.”

The actor shared he had to undergo a rigorous amount of stunt and wirework. However, the actor cherishes those days of rigorous shooting and accomplishments. Talking about the specific cargo plane stunt, he shared,

“It took months to film that. We had these things called cougar arms, which are like the robotic arms you see used to make cars … and then they would attach these big boxes to the robot in a row and, then they shot it vertically. So most of the sequence was shot that way so we could simulate the notion that we were flying through the air. And basically, all I had to do was hang onto these boxes and make my way up. And then, we designed fight sequences with various different stunt guys throughout the route. The hardest part of it was that we were shooting small pieces at a time because the way the wire work was designed with the moving machinery was obviously very dangerous. So we had to take it really slowly.”

The film was released in 2022 and was widely appreciated by the audience.

Tom Holland on doing stunts and action sequences in Uncharted

Right after the success of the Spider-Man trilogy, the actor was back in action for his video game adaptation film Uncharted. He shared in an interview with Reuter,

“I’ve been playing two very famous characters who are famous for climbing things. It was important to us to create this unique style for Nathan Drake so there were no similarities to Spider-Man at all but… when you’re making these big films, it’s exciting to see how far you can push the limits, to what you can do physically, to design these sequences to be unique and be fresh and new.”

Tom Holland also opened up on the thrilling stunts in the film,

“They were the hardest thing I’ve ever done from a physical point of view.”

He revealed spending nearly every day for five weeks in a studio, wired up 100 feet (31m) from the ground. Tom Holland added,

“We shredded our hands to bits, and it was exhausting, but rightly so. It’s a really impressive sequence, and I think that kind of level of physicality really comes through on screen, but it was knackering. It was absolutely brutal.”

Uncharted was directed by Ruben Fleischer, where Tom Holland starred as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. It grossed $401.7 million worldwide.

Uncharted is available for streaming on Netflix.
