One of the greatest talents of Hollywood and a highly appreciated actor-producer, Tom Hardy justifies his name among the A-listers. The actor has given a slew of box office hits in his career span and is known for diversity in work. The actor debuted with Ridley Scott’s 2001 war drama movie Black Hawk Down. However, Hardy came to the limelight with his role in Nicolas Winding Refn’s film Bronson. He is known for his versatile roles ranging from heroes to villains to more, and successfully acing them.
It is the dream of every actor to become a part of the MCU or the DCU. A hit in the comic book movie genre can lead to an entire franchise of films. Similar was the case for Tom Hardy, who was once considered for a DC project, however, the role was given to another actor. The actor finally made his comic world debut with the high-grossing franchise Venom.
Tom Hardy Was Considered For Suicide Squad
When DC started with one of the most prestigious projects, Suicide Squad, Tom Hardy’s name was considered for a particular role. As per the reports, the Mad Max: Fury Road actor was chosen for the role of Rick Flagg. He was going to be a major character in the movie, thus associating with a prominent star would have done wonders for the film. The film also constituted some prominent names like Will Smith and Margot Robbie.
Hardy was very excited when he was offered the role and said,
“Warner Bros. is my home studio and I love them so I was really bummed out. I wanted to work on that and I know the script is really f****** alley and I also know what’s gonna happen with The Joker and Harley Quinn in that; I won’t give away too much…it’s f****** alley. And that whole territory is something that I would certainly—I mean, everybody loves The Joker. Everybody loves The Joker. Will Smith is a dope guy, but everybody loves The Joker and that’s gonna, I think, be a very important film for fans.”
Tom Hardy was already a popular name at the time with films like Lawless, The Drop, Warrior, Inception, and more under his name. Hence, roping him in the project would have added to the joy of fans of the star.

Tom Hardy turned down Suicide Squad for another Oscar-nominated movie
Tom Hardy was the perfect choice for Rick Flagg in the $747 Million gross Suicide Squad, but the actor decided to let go of the offer. For the uninitiated, The Dark Knight Rises fame was busy with another movie. Hardy shared,
“There’s a very practical element as to why I’ve missed out on that foray, which is because Alejandro [G. Inarritu] has overshot by three months in Calgary, so we’ve got to go back out to Patagonia or Alaska to continue shooting The Revenant which has turned into a much bigger beast than we thought, but that also looks exceptional.”
It was hard luck the Dunkirk actor could not work in DC’s Suicide Squad, but he was nominated for an Academy Award due to his work in The Revenant. The role was given to Joel Kinnaman, and he reprised it in The Suicide Squad in 2021.
Tom Hardy made his anti-hero entry in the MCU with Venom, released in 2018. With the success of two movies in the franchise, Hardy will soon reprise his role in Venom 3 in 2024.
