Once upon a time, Tom Cruise was the premiere choice for playing MCU’s Iron Man. But he turned down the film hinting at the lack of control he would have had on the project. Later on, the director, Jon Favreau, backed Robert Downey Jr., and the rest, as they say, is history.
Now that the MCU is exploring the multiverse, fans are hoping that Tom Cruise will put on an Iron Man suit and cameo in any of the upcoming projects. While Downey Jr. is hoping that they can star together in a project, he doesn’t want it to be Iron Man 4.
Tom Cruise Wants To Make A Les Grossman Film?
When people think of Tropic Thunder, the first actors who come to mind are Robert Downey Jr., Black Jack, Ben Stiller, etc. However, for many, it was Tom Cruise as Les Grossman, the foul-mouthed and ill-tempered studio executive, who stole the show.
A Deadline report was released in 2022 stating that Tom Cruise and his frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie were trying to get a project with Les Grossman off the ground.
Here’s what the site reported:
“They are… fixated on Les Grossman. The latter is the gruff, dance-happy studio executive Cruise played in a cameo for Tropic Thunder. It’s unclear if they will create a whole movie around Grossman or borrow him for inclusion in either of the other vehicles.”
So what does Robert Downey Jr. think about working with the Top Gun 2 star in the sequel of the film that put him in the spotlight again? He would love to work with him.
Robert Downey Jr. Is Itching To Work With Tom Cruise Again
Extra TV asked Robert Downey Jr. what are his thoughts on working on a Tropic Thunder sequel with Tom Cruise. He said that he is absolutely open to working with Cruise. Downey said:
“All I’ll say is this, look, Tom Cruise and I have not done a project yet together. So that’s kind of a yes and then we will figure out what the title is.”
The interviewer then asked him if he would like to return in Iron Man 4. To this, the Marvel star replied, “Does he (Cruise) want to do that?” The host clarified that everyone wanted to see him (Downey Jr.) return. However, it looked like the Dolittle star was in the mood to be funny, and so as he was leaving, he said, “Tom, don’t take it.”
It was heavily rumored in the days leading up to Doctor Strange 2 that Tom Cruise was going to appear as an alternate version of Iron Man. However, that obviously didn’t happen. But fans haven’t given up hope. Many think that the action star can cameo in Avengers: Secret Wars. It now remains to be seen if that happens or not.
All the Iron Man films are streaming on Disney+, while Tropic Thunder is available for rent on Amazon Prime Video.
