Tom Cruise’s recent installment of the Mission Impossible franchise has been one of the most highly anticipated movies from the series. And while fans were eager to see the actor return as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, they were certainly delivered an impeccably made action film.
Well, while audiences were thoroughly impressed, Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver writer Paul Schrader expressed his disgust over the script of the movie. Slamming Cruise’s latest iteration as “tiresome claptrap” the screenwriter made modest remarks about the seventh part. Critically dissecting the movie, Schrader pointed out its negative aspects.
Paul Schrader Brutally Criticized Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7
Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise, has been rocking the silver screen with his appearance as Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible franchise. Known for his penchant for action and nerve-wracking stunts, the actor is said to have delivered one of his best performances in the latest installment of the film series.
However, not everyone is willing to agree with the reviews and fans’ appreciation. Especially not Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver writer Paul Schrader. The 77-year-old screenwriter weighed in on Mission: Impossible 7 and openly expressed his absolute hate for the film. Stating his views via Facebook, Schrader purposefully reflected upon the script of the film.
“MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — DEAD RECKONING. Such tiresome claptrap. There’s no reason that AI, given the correct prompts, could not have written this script.” Paul Schrader wrote.
Shredding Tom Cruise’s recent installment, the screenwriter gave out the most brutal review of the film. Recalling how the movie, despite being released prior to the box office dominators Barbie and Oppenheimer, failed to create an impact, Paul Schrader slammed the 7th installment as a “tiresome claptrap”.
Fans Hail Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1
No matter what Paul Schrader had to say about the movie, fans simply hailed Tom Cruise for delivering one of his best performances in his recent movie. Appreciating Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 for living up to fans’ expectations and being a behemoth-sized spectacle, audiences gave their positive reviews to the film and the actor.
Giving an impressive 8/10 rating on IMDb, fans spiked the reviews leading the 7th installment to get a 96% RT rating. However, interestingly, despite a majority of fans supporting the movie, Tom Cruise‘s film struggled excessively at the domestic box office. Earning simply $140M domestically, the movie seemed to rely on China and the world at large to save it with overseas grosses.
Regardless of fans’ appreciation Tom Cruise’s movie delivered a lukewarm performance at the box office and after three weeks in theatres, it just passed the $450M mark. Needless to say, despite the sky-high expectations for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, the movie’s unfortunate box office struggle baffled the audience as well as the filmmakers.
