Tom Cruise has performed multiple death-defying stunts and action sequences during his acting career. Whether it’s climbing the tallest building in the world or hanging from the outside of a plane, he topped every other stunt in the Mission Impossible franchise. He once again did the same for the upcoming film in the franchise, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which is set to release in a few days.

Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7 Stunt Nearly Went Wrong

Last year in December, Tom Cruise shared how he performed one of the epic and most extreme stunts of his career in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. It features the action star jumping off a cliff with a bike and making a smooth landing with the help of a parachute.

And like every other stunt in his career, he did pull it off for the movie. Talking about it during a recent interview, the Jack Reacher star shared the whole process of setting up the stunt. Despite doing everything and taking all the measures to make it perfect, things could have gone south during the initial tests for the stunt.

He shared that while testing the wind, he jumped off the helicopter. However, as he opened the parachute, he realized that he was in the wrong position. “When I opened it, I was in the wrong position, and I opened the parachute, and the parachute turned into the side of the mountain,” he shared.

Cruise stated that he was very close to the mountain, and it could have gone wrong. He said, “I could just at the last second I was very close. My chute was pretty close to the side of the mountain.” The Mission Impossible star further added that this is the reason every aspect needs to be checked before going in for it.

Director Christopher McQuarrie has said that they wanted to be more adventurous with the lead star’s stunts. “With Tom, there are no limits. So we’ve become a little more adventurous every time,” he said. The action star learned speed flying for the movie and trained for three years in different countries, learning different techniques and every possible thing to make sure that the stunt goes smoothly.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is set to release on July 12, 2023.
