Widely regarded as one of the most influential and loved Hollywood personalities, Tom Cruise has built up such a reputation that his words tend to carry a lot of weight and value in the business. This, in turn, has helped the production companies to profit from the star’s keen intellect and experience to make some of the biggest blockbusters and critically-acclaimed films in the past.
These unique traits are some of the reasons why Cruise has such a positive reputation, not just among his fans, but also among other stars in the industry. While many of them would love to work with him on a film project, it seems like Jessica Chastain is an exception to this, considering that she had refused not just one, but two roles on separate occasions that included his contributions.
Jessica Chastain Dropped Out From Her Role In Tom Cruise’s Oblivion
Widely regarded as one of the last remaining film stars in the world, the influence that Tom Cruise commands both in the industry and beyond is exemplary, to say the least. Thus, there have been quite a few occasions when the story of his power has been revealed that has majorly helped other stars in different ways in the industry. One such occasion also happened to be when Jessica Chastain wanted to opt out of the film she was starring in alongside the Top Gun star, and he helped her to take her leave from the project.
According to Chastain in her interview with Vanity Fair, she had decided to work on Oblivion, and she was well suited for the role, which meant that all that was left to do was start the production process for the film. But then, she was made another offer to play a role in the Military/Thriller Zero Dark Thirty, which enchanted her so much that she wanted to pursue this instead of working on the project with Cruise. When she told this to Tom Cruise, the star helped her out by talking with the officials at the production company. She said:
“Someone contacted him from my agency and said, ‘Listen, she wants to work with you. And she would love to, but there is this other film, and it’s so important,’ And with his support, I was able to do this movie. He’s a pretty incredible human.”
While the role eventually went to Olga Kurylenko and everything went smoothly, this wouldn’t be the last time the Interstellar star would refuse to work with Cruise.

After dropping out of Oblivion, Cruise approached Chastain again for the role of Lisa Faust in the then-upcoming Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation, which was the fifth installment in the successful franchise. Here, the Ava star declined the offer to join the franchise due to reasons unknown, but some sources say that it was due to the rigorous physical and mental training that was involved with the film. The role eventually went to Rebecca Ferguson.
