Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie created the 2015 movie Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation wherein they introduced the character of Solomon Lane. The antagonist was a pivotal point in the story (obviously) but the actor that would be cast in the role is more interesting than the movie.
As per the reports, the role was originally considered for British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Cruise and McQuarrie later gave the role to Sean Harris with the actor having certain conditions. Harris stated that he wanted his character killed off in the movie but, things did not go according to plan.
Tom Cruise Refused To Accept Sean Harris’ Condition For Mission: Impossible
The character of Solomon Lane was created for the 2015 movie Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation by Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie. As per the reports, Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch was considered heavily for the role of the antagonist in the movie.
The role, however, ended up with actor Sean Harris who portrayed Solomon Lane beautifully. Before agreeing to portray the role, Sean Harris did reveal that he had a certain condition that Tom Cruise must fulfill. Even though Cruise agreed, the condition was later nullified with the release of sequels, and Harris had to begrudgingly return to his role of Solomon Lane.
As per the reports, Sean Harris had but one condition that his character must be killed in the 2015 film. For reasons unknown, Sean Harris did star in the movie but Tom Cruise refused to let Solomon Lane die. The antagonist was further added to the story in the 2018 movie Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Sean Harris had to once again reprise his role in the 2018 movie.
Tom Cruise Apparently Does Not Interfere With His Co-Stars
With the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, rumors have once again begun to spread on the Internet that co-stars Hayley Atwell and Tom Cruise are allegedly dating. Atwell was quick to put these rumors to rest by saying that she considers Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie as her “two uncles”!
“I would be like, ‘Ooh, there’s some weird rumors, and it feels base. It feels a little dirty…. It feels grubby. It’s not what I’m about. [They are] sort of two uncles.”
With the recent release of the film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One currently stands at an IMDB rating of 8.2/10 while an exceedingly overwhelming 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Tom Cruise action flick is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
