Shot to fame with his leading role in Risky Business, 60-year-old Tom Cruise is currently one of the highest-grossing actors in the world. It is safe to say that with a net worth of $600 million, and an annual income of $50 million, Tom Cruise has managed to prove his stardom over and over again in the following three decades.
As a result, an overall worldwide grossing of a whopping $8.5 billion from his movies is certainly not a surprise. As he has mentioned before, the Mission: Impossible star can’t seem to be able to do anything in half-measures. If he does something, he is all in.
Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movies
One of Tom Cruise’s most famous roles, Pete Mitchell from the Top Gun franchise is definitely at the top of the list. His salary for it was $2 million which interestingly makes out over 13% of the movie’s $15 million budget. This is the movie that defined his career and went on to earn over $357 million, making it 1986’s highest-grossing movie. That was the start so to say, and in his most recent movie, the 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, in which Cruise reprised his role as Maverick, proved why the star deserves every bit of his stardom.
Top Gun: Maverick alone grossed $1 billion of his $8.4 billion movie career, of which, Tom Cruise holds 10% shares. Another one of his iconic characters, Charlie Babbitt in Rain Man, from 1988, earned the movie its $412 million fortune taking him to the peak of his career. Over the years, with more and more of his spectacular performances, Tom Cruise made his imprint on people’s hearts and the industry alike.
His Lestat in Interview with the Vampire ($223 million), Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible series ($787 million), Jerry McGuire ($273 million), Ray Ferrier in War of the Worlds ($606 million), and Nick Morton in The Mummy ($409 million) kept surprising fans with their variety and his dedication to improve himself with the years. It is safe to say that his, “I’m an all-or-nothing kind of person, and when I become interested in something, I give it my all,” attitude in over 3 decades of acting career hasn’t changed one bit and is still drawing fans to the theaters.
Tom Cruise’s impressive Box office rankings
With many extremely talented artists present in the industry, Tom Cruise has managed to hold the 2nd position in the Box office worldwide ranking. With his larger-than-life persona, the War of the Worlds star ranks 5th in the Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the Domestic Box Office, 17th in the Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the International Box Office, and 7th at the Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the Worldwide Box Office.
Adding further to his numerous crown jewels, he is also 58th, 43rd, and 55th in the list of Highest Grossing Stars of 2023 at the Domestic, International, and Worldwide Box Office respectively. It will be interesting to see Tom Cruise’s rankings switch even more for 2024 with more of his Mission: Impossible movies releasing soon.
